Yocheved is the posthumous overarching protagonist of DreamWorks' second full-length animated feature film The Prince of Egypt (which is based on the Book of Exodus). Like her Biblical counterpart, she is the mother of Moses, Miriam and Aaron.
She was voiced by the late Ofra Haza.
Her Goodness Ranking[]
Her Heroic Deeds[]
- She was very caring towards all three of her children and does everything to ensure their safety.
- She prevented her son Moses from being killed by Seti's soldiers, and unwilling to drown him in the Nile River, she defies the inhumane law by making a basket for him and continuously watched over him to make sure he is safe until he was discovered by the Egyption princess, who is fortunately compassionate enough to let him live.
- She sings Moses a lullaby to help calm him down.
Why Doesn't She Stand Out?[]
- While it would not be fair to compare her to God, who has unlimited resources and she passes the general baseline by being responsible for Moses living, she still failed immensely to Moses, who actively helped lead the Israelites out of Egypt, and even Miriam who was active in helping Moses and several people through the worst of the slavery they were forced to endure. Yocheved has very limited screen-time and is hardly seen again after that.
Trivia[]
- She was once a Pure Good hero as she was responsible for Moses living on and making a difference, but after a reevaluation, she was rejected from PG since the standards of The Prince of Egypt are pretty high, and she doesn't have enough screen-time to really shine.
