Yamcha is a major supporting character in the Dragon Ball anime/manga series. He was one of Goku's early friends who started as a thief later becoming a member of the Z-Fighters who are heroes that save the world from its destruction.

In General[]
- Out of the Z Fighters, he's the most forgiving fighter. He explained to Tien that mercy is important for a martial artist even when he defeated a rude fighter.
- Just like Master Roshi, he's not into little girls. Unlike Roshi, however, he has no intentions to commit sexual harassment on women and teenage girls.
- Despite being less consistent to wear Turtle School gi than Goku and even Krillin, whenever Yamcha wears that gi, he does it as an honorable fighter.
- Contrast to Goku's rivalry with Vegeta, Yamcha's rivalry with Tien is more friendly and stable.
- Whenever he uses the Dragon Balls to revive people, Yamcha always revives those are non-evil.
- When he's not participate any tournaments, he cheers for his allies who do show up there to fight.
Dragon Ball classic[]
- Even in his desert bandit days, his intentions to use the Dragon Balls by get rid of his fear of women. (He eventually changes his mind when he decides to date Bulma instead.)
- He turns down of Puar's suggestion to use the Dragon Balls for wishing for a large sum of money or even conquering the world.
- He indrectly prevents Oolong from commiting sexual assault on Bulma.
- He showed remorse of accidentally peep on a completely naked Bulma taking a shower. Later on, he also showed remorse of accidentally grope Bulma's breast when she's both alseep and still completely naked.
- At some point, both him and Puar redeem themselves.
- He and the Dragon Team foil Pilaf Gang's plans.
- He saved Bulma, Oolong, and Puar from Great Ape Goku. Along with Puar, he cuts off Goku's tail, ending his subconscious and dangerous rampages.
- Saved Bulma from getting hit by a truck.
- Tried to save Goku's life from Jackie Chun during the 21st World Tournament. (He's not aware that Jackie Chun and Master Roshi are the same person.)
- Decides to train under Master Roshi.
- Helped Goku defeat the Red Ribbon Army.
- Finds a Dragon Ball to revive Bora.
- Despite he and the Turtle School fighters lost at the 22nd World Tournament, they redeem both Tien and Chiaotzu.
- Along with Launch, he protected Bulma, Oolong and Puar from criminals that broke into the Kame House.
- (Anime only): He tries to defeat Tambourine before the latter leaves to find Goku.
- Despite he and Krillin lost at the 23rd World Tournament, they both preform very well enough to gain the audiences' respect.
Dragon Ball Z[]
Saiyan Saga[]
- Trains under harsh near-death measures for a year to prepare for the fight against Vegeta and Nappa.
- Correctly guessed that Krillin could die from being killed by one of the Saibamen, Yamcha decided to fight it instead.
Frieza Saga[]
- While training at King Kai's planet, he (along with Tien and Chiaotzu) does not disobey King Kai's orders.
- (Anime only): He, Tien and Chiaotzu take down the Ginyu Force (except Captain Ginyu who's not dead at that point) and sent them to the underworld.
- When the the Dragon Team need to decide which of the three dead fighters to resurrect after used up two wishes, Yamcha decides to be the first one to revive. The reason for that is both Tien and Chiazotzu both want to be revive on the same day together.
Garlic Jr. Saga (non-canon)[]
- He and the Dragon Team restrains the wrathful Chi-Chi from attacking Maron.
- Yamcha does his best to not give in to Maron's seduction. (That's because she was Krillin's then girlfriend and Yamcha was dating Bulma.)
Cell Saga[]
- Yamcha tries not to let Tien's anger get the best of him from Vegeta's antagonism.
- He and the Z-Fighters intended go up against the Frieza and King Cold but the villianous duo were killed by Future Trunks.
- He trains for fighting the androids in three years time.
- He accepts that Bulma dumps him for Vegeta. Despite that, they are in good terms.
- Upon encountering Androids 19 & 20 (later to reveal to be Dr. Gero for the latter android) and nearly died. Yamcha's deplete energy alerts the Z Fighters. Thankfully, Krillin uses the Senzu Beans to recover Yamcha.
- Yamcha volunteers to have Goku take the medicine for the heart virus.
- He and Chi-Chi take the medicine as well incase if they get infected by the heart virus.
- He and the Z Fighters tried their best to hunt down Imperfect Cell before encountering Androids 16, 17, & 18 at the Kame House.
- He and the Z Fighters try to fight off Cell Jrs. until Gohan takes action.
- (Anime only): He and Tien help out the exhausted Goku from Cell Jrs.
- Shocked And saddened about the deaths of Goku and Future Trunks.
- (Anime only): He, Krillin, Tien, Piccolo, and eventually Vegeta helped Gohan defeat Cell in a Kamehameha beam struggle. (Vegeta is the only Z Fighter that help out Gohan in the manga.)
- Proud of Gohan for defeating Cell.
- He carries Gohan to the lookout so that the latter gets healed by Dende.
- Informs Android 18 that Gohan defeated Cell.
- Has no problem of letting Krillin to use the second wish from Earth's Dragon Balls by removing the bombs that were inside Androids 17 & 18.
- Yamcha informs the resurrected Future Trunks about Vegeta's actions while he was dead.
- He bids farewell to Future Trunks as the latter returns to his timeline.
Majin Buu Saga[]
- Shocked that the temporary rouge Vegeta of killed innocent people at the 25th World Tournament.
- He and the Dragon Team gather the Earth's Dragon Balls to undo the damage that Vegeta has done.
- He indirectly revives Kabito back to life.
- Very shocked about Vegeta's death and Gohan's apparent death.
- He and Krillin felt guilty of being too dependent of having Trunks and Goten to fight Super Buu when the former pair were scolded by a hypocritical Bulma.
- (Anime only): He, Krillin, Pikkon, and other fighters from the otherworld tried their very best to fight off Kid Buu.
- He and the Dragon Team give their energy to Goku in order for the latter to finish off Kid Buu for good.
Dragon Ball Super[]
- He befriends with Beerus despite the latter wasn't originally invited to Bulma's birthday party.
- Wanted to participate the Tournament of Power.
- He helps out the Z Fighters and Galactic Patrol to take down Moro and his army.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- While he can’t be compared to Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Beerus and Android 17 due to their gap in power, he still fails the huge admirable standards to similar heroes like Krillin, Master Roshi, Bulma, Goten, Trunks, and even Dende with similar or fewer capabilities or resources.
- He is arrogant and his lack of getting stronger can make him incompetent in Dragon Ball and was placed more on the sidelines during Dragon Ball Z and especially most of Dragon Ball Super.
- Yamcha allegedly cheats on Bulma on their on and off relationship before they broke up for good. (To be fair, Bulma herself is no different since she flirts with other guys behind Yamcha's back.)
Trivia[]
- Yamcha and Vegeta are exact foils of Heroic Benchmark and Villainous Benchmark respectively. The irony is Vegeta does more admirable actions that Yamcha himself.
