~ Vanessa showing the animatronics off to Mike. |
Vanessa Afton, also known as Vanessa Shelly, is the tritagonist of the Five Nights at Freddy's film series, based on the video game franchise of the same name.
She's a patrol officer and daughter of child serial killer William Afton. Despite assisting Afton in covering up his murders, as well as lying to Mike and Abby about her true identity, she ultimately redeems herself when she helps them defeat her father. She is based on Vanessa A. from the games.
She is portrayed by Elizabeth Lail.
Her Good Ranking[]
In General[]
- While she did have an hand in her father's crimes, it was due to him torturing and manipulating her into compliance, and she ultimately managed to stand up to him.
Her Heroic Deeds[]
- After she became a police officer, she's mainly stopping the murders of Freddy's.
- She befriended many security guards, later Mike, over the years and gave them advices on how to survive.
- She gave Mike another advice and told him to not sleep in his job so he could be wary of the animatronics that coming after him.
- She warned Mike to not bring Abby into the Pizzaria again to keep her safe.
- Just like Mike, Vanessa hold on hostility towards the animatronics, viewing them as innocent children and was even seen being friendly with them.
- She revealed the truth behind Garrett's death and the disappearance of the missing children caused by her father William Afton to Mike and apologizes to him for keeping the secret the whole time.
- Alongside Mike, she came to the Pizzaria to save Abby from Afton and the animatronics.
- While Michael and Abby try to convince the animatronics that their killer is Afton, she nearly hold of her father at the cost of her life.
- Though she should have competed with the admirable standards, she still stands out for being a supportive officer towards the previous nightguards and for putting her life at risk to end her father's murder spree.
Why Doesn't She Stand Out?[]
- While she passed the baseline by supporting the previous security guards with survival tactics and almost putting her life at risk, she still fails the in-story standards to Mike and his sister Abby who played major roles in revealing the truth about William Afton's crimes to the Missing Children, freeing the ghost children from Afton's control and ending the murder spree in Freddy's.
- She relies too much on Fridge Brilliance as there's no proof of how did she support the previous nightguards from being killed by the animatronics under Afton's control before the film's events.
- Though she did subverted some of her corrupting factors, she only has a minor jerk moment where she threatened Mike with death should he carried Abby to the Pizzeria, though this is understandable since this would endanger her.
Trivia[]
- She was potentially considered an Inconsistently Admirable for being a whole part of her father's crimes behind Garett's disappearance, but it turns out that Mike and Abby have more resources in defeating Afton together at the climax while Vanessa has supportive heroism.
- While she is currently a Heroic Benchmark, her status could finally change in the upcoming sequel.
