Heroic Benchmark Wiki

I should be more important! I should be the one with the sidekick and the exciting adventures! I'm more handsome, richer, and more colorful than you guys, and YET, it's like I'm the supporting character of my own life!
~ Tobias to Gumball and Darwin in "The Voice."

Tobias Wilson is a supporting character in the animated series The Amazing World of Gumball.

He is a wealthy, multicolored, cloud-like student who attends Elmore Jr. High in Miss Simian's class with the main characters: Gumball and Darwin Watterson. He is the son of Harold and Jackie Wilson, and brother of Rachel Wilson.

Tobias often boasts about his athletic abilities and family's wealth, but he has little in the way of actual skill to support his claims. He often serves as a rival or foil to Gumball, but the two can be friendly together as well.

He is voiced by Rupert Degas and (later) Hugo Harold-Harrison.

His Good Ranking[]

His Heroic Deeds[]

  • In "The Dress," he tries to tell the balloon of "GumballOopsEggWobbleUnderpants" to move to the left and float away from the sun.
  • In "The Mystery," he helps solve the mystery of who shaved Principal Brown and locked him in Gumball's locker.
  • In "The Kiss," he hosts the "Sounds of Suffering" with Banana Joe so that Gumball can forget his traumatic kiss with Granny Jojo.
  • In "The Society," he helps the other students feign the existence of the Secret Society so that Gumball will stop obsessing over it.
  • In "The Comic," he sings the LaserHeart theme to encourage Gumball.
  • In "The Blame," he participates in the "Books Are Violent" song to persuade the students' parents against Felicity Parham regarding her hypocritical attitude towards video games.
  • In "The Slap," Tobias helps himself and Gumball escape the school rooftop after they were locked up there. He later tries to make up with Gumball by slapping him on the butt like he wanted.
  • In "The Candidate," as the school was heating up and falling apart, and the students were trapped, Tobias uses a bunch of money to fill a hole in the ground that allows all of them to escape.

Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • While he passes the baseline by helping the students escape the school, he fails the admirable standards to other supporting characters, including Carrie, Rob and Miss Simian.
  • He is On & Off and is often portrayed a mischievous rival/borderline villain in the series:
    • In "The Knights," he forces Gumball into a physical fight in order to win over Penny Fitzgerald as his medieval science project.
    • In "The Mothers," he conspires with his mother and cheats in the "Superest Mom" competition by mitigating the difficulty of all of her tasks.
    • In "The Points," he scams Gumball and Darwin into doing all of his house chores for him by giving them "invisible points."
    • In "The Test," he replaces Gumball as the main character after Gumball was deemed a "loser" by an online test, stealing his family and life.
    • In "The One," he tries to become Gumball's best friend by murdering his close friends: Leslie, Bobert 6B, Banana Joe, Sarah G. Lato, Carrie Krueger, and Darwin in very brutal ways (although it all took place in his head).
    • In many episodes, he participates in the chaos that the other students partake in.
  • He is super arrogant and self-absorbed, constantly viewing himself as superior to his peers due to his wealth, appearance and other vain characteristics. In "The Voice," he insists that he should be "more important" than Gumball and Darwin because he's "more handsome, richer, and more colorful" than them. In "The Candidate," he uses his family's wealth to change the rules of mathematics in order to justify hogging the food for himself. In "The Shippening," he is literally seen kissing a reflection of himself, with Gumball commenting it is in character for him.
    • This also results in a slimy attitude and little respect towards the girls at his school, making advances on them even when they are clearly uncomfortable or don't like him. In "The Test," he is perfectly willing to date both Masami Yoshida and Clare Cooper at the same time.
    • He makes fun of Gumball and Darwin for using aromatic shower gel and thus not conforming to traditional masculinity in "The Worst."
  • He is a hero by proxy because he is mostly reactive in his good deeds.
