~ The Master |
Ada, better known as The Master, is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Juliet Chau) of the AMC series Into the Badlands.
She is a Dark One who accidentally killed her brother when she was a child due to her Gift emerging without her being able to control it. This event prompted her to create the Abbot Monastery, a place where she trained young Dark Ones on how to control their Gift. While she goes to extreme methods in order to achieve her goals and is an antagonistic character, she does ultimately have a noble goal and wants to keep the world safe.
She was portrayed by Chipo Chung.
Her Good Ranking[]
Her Heroic Deeds[]
- She creates the Abbot Monastery to house and train Dark Ones away from the rest of the world, likely stopping those with the Gift from accidentally killing innocent people on accident.
- She saves the Widow from being killed by Baron Chau in order to enlist her help in dealing with the threat of Pilgrim.
- She decides to put her aside her grievances with the Widow and Bajie so they can help track down Ankara.
- When Pilgrim and M.K. come to destroy the Monastery and kill her, she fights them until she is completely overpowered. She attempts to use her last bit of strength to kill Pilgrim, and nearly succeeds before M.K. stabs her in the back.
- On the verge of death she is found by the Widow, and the Master admits that the reason she went to such extreme measures was due to accidentally killing her brother with her Gift, recognizing that she effectively served as another tyrant and telling the Widow to create a world without any masters.
Why Doesn't She Stand Out?[]
- While her intentions in creating the Abbot Monastery are noble, her methods of achieving this goal are extreme and turn her into an outright villainous character, as she forcefully abducts children in order to train them in secret and puts those who try to run away into a coma. This causes her to fail the admirable standards to protagonist characters such as Sunny and Bajie, since they are also trying to keep the world safe but do so without hurting innocent people.
- She is an antagonist for most of the series, and most of her heroic acts are off-screen, with her only actively fighting on the side of the heroes during the last few episodes of the series when the threat of Pilgrim has become too great to ignore.
- Even while working with the Widow and Bajie in order to defeat Pilgrim she is still a jerk and refuses to acknowledge the reasons why they dislike her.
- M.K. killing her is fairly justified, as she is one of the primary reasons why he became a villain and her numerous atrocities make her death deserved.
- She doesn't show remorse after being defeated by Pilgrim and M.K., and only admits that being a tyrant was the wrong coarse of action when she is speaking to the Widow on the verge of death.
