“ | Ah, the Overlord. Glad we weren't around for that mess. No, we have no desire to meddle in the affairs above. As you can see, we stick to our own. We only want what's best for the next generation. | „ |
~ Skales |
Skales is a supporting character in LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu.
Starting out as a warrior of the Hypnobrai tribe, he usurped the position of a general from Slithraa and eventually became a high-ranking member of the Serpentine army and Pythor's right-hand man in his quest to awaken the Great Devourer and unleash it on Ninjago. After the Devourer's death and Pythor's disappearance, he became the king of the Serpentine and attempted to wage war against Ninjago, before finally turning over a new leaf and leading a peaceful and secluded life in the Stone Army Tomb alongside The Serpentine.
He is voiced by Ian James Corlett.
His Heroic Deeds[]
In General[]
- Although he used to be a villain who did atrocities such as helping Pythor to free the Great Devourer and trying to bury Ninjago City underground which would result in millions of deaths, he has largely redeemed himself, making peace with his warring past and becoming one of the Ninja's allies to the point where the Ninja consider him their friend.
- He cares for other people:
- He cares for the Serpentine, who he rules with peace and even convinced them to redeem themselves.
- He has a genuine friendship with Fangtom, as seen when Lloyd sent the Fangpyre to attack the Hypnobrai, he immediately recognized him as his old friend and stopped from trying to fight each other.
- He loves his family and is protective of them such as when the Nindroid Army attacked their village.
- He grew to care for the Ninja, as he often assists them in stopping threats to Ninjago.
Rebooted[]
- Despite the Ninja ransacking through his bag believing that Skales stole the hard drive which contained the Overlord only to be proven wrong when they only found groceries, he did not got mad or attacked them and even apologized for the incovenience.
- Although reluctant at first, upon being convinced by Selma, he allowed the Ninja into his village so they can find out more about the legend of the Golden Master.
- He apologized to the Ninja for refusing to help them due to swearing to not return to the surface.
- He told to the Ninja that Pythor liked to use Electro-Cobrai, revealing the identity of the Stranger who helped the Overlord.
- He saved Ninjago citizens from being killed by the Overlord by helping them evacuate underground, saving at least 10 citizens.
Tournament of Elements[]
- After hearing Zane's speech about asking Ninjago citizens for help in the Second Serpentine War, he fought in the war against the Anacondrai Cultists.
- He was genuinely grateful when Nya saved him from being crushed by an Anacondrai Crusher, remarking that he never thought he would have been happy to see the ship (Destiny's Bounty) again.
- He helped to clean the mess caused after the Second Serpentine War in the Corridor of Elders.
The Hands of Time[]
- While he did follow the Vermillion, it was only to know where they are so he can protect the Serpentine from them.
- He protected his son Skales Jr., when Jay and Cole attacked them for mistaking them for Vermillion.
- He stopped Skales Jr. from attacking Jay.
- He explained to the Ninja about how dangerous the Vermillion Army are and deduced that Krux and Acronix are using a swamp in order to breed more Vermillion.
- He gave the Ninja a map to guide them to the Vermillion Army and wished them good luck.
The Secrets of Forbidden Spinjitzu[]
- He stopped some Hypnobrai from attacking the Ninja and led them to Acidicus, so they can find out more about Aspheera and "the Treacherous Deceiver's" history.
Seabound[]
- He went to Nya's funeral to pay his respect to her sacrifice for Ninjago and looked sad.
Crystalized[]
- He fought against the Crystal Army and succesfully defeated some of the Crystal Warriors.
- What makes this more admirable is the fact that he often was reluctant to fight threats and feared the Overlord, but he decided to face his fears and fight the army of the enemy he previously feared so much.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- While saving Ninjago citizens from being killed by the Overlord and assisting the Ninja in saving Ninjago allows him to pass the general baseline, he fails the high admirable standards to the Ninja, Ronin, Dareth and even to others who fail the admirable standards themselves such as Skylor Chen and Mistaké who often play much larger roles in saving Ninjago.
- Resources do not help as he has an army of Serpentine, combat powers and hypnotism at his disposal.
- Even after his redemption he still can be rude at times such as when he told to Skales Jr. that the Ninjago citizens will lose the battle against the Overlord due to refusing to listen to their warning of the Golden Master or when he was aloof to the Ninja when they asked him for help with Aspheera.
- He is Lawful Neutral, as while understandable, he (sometimes) prefers more to protect the Serpentine and his family from danger, rather than engage in protecting Ninjago or doing heroic acts, as seen in Hunted where it was revealed that he, along with the Serpentine, retreated instead of helping the Resistance save Ninjago from Lord Garmadon and is often reluctant to help the Ninja, such as when they asked him for help with Aspheera, preventing him from being NPG.
- He commited atrocities, such as helping Pythor to unleash the Great Devourer which would have consumed all of Ninjago and trying to bury Ninjago City and while he redeemed himself and is remorseful over his actions, it is still to corruptible for NPG.
