~ Scrat's iconic scream |
Scrat is one of the overarching protagonist (alongside Buck) in the Ice Age franchise, and the main protagonist of the short films of the franchise.
He is an ancient squirrel that is obsessed with acorns and buries them throughout the franchise for preservation.
He is voiced by first film director Chris Wedge.
His Good Ranking[]
His Heroic Deeds[]
- He cares for his acorns like sons and buries them for preservation. There may be hints that Scrat buries the acorns so they can grow to trees, though this is not proven.
- He gives Manny and Sid hints that he saw a pack of Sabertooths walk nearby their direction.
- Though accidental, he saves the valley from melting down when he broke a glacier, and causing the water to wash away.
- Without purpose, he helps Manny's herd to crossing a river in safety.
- He attempts to sacrifices himself by trying to save Scratte from falling to death.
- He saves Scratte's life after she slammed into rock above a lava lake.
- He falls in love with Scratte and ends up marrying her, even having a son, while abandoning his acorn, meaning that he can care about the others, instead of looking exclusively at his acorn.
- In the series "Ice Age: Scrat Tales", he teaches his son how to grow up.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- He fails the in-story standards to Manny, Diego, and Sid, as they end up doing far more heroic things than Scrat does. He also fails them to Ellie, who herself fails the in-story standards to Manny, Diego, and Sid.
- He is very incompetent, as he is prone to putting himself and others in dangers throughout the franchise.
- His act of saving the valley and draining the flood was unintentional.
- He can be very wrathful and jerkish to other characters like Sid (despite Sid saving his life), or packs of Piranhas, when his acorn is being threatened (though the latter is justified considering they tried to attack him first).
- He is only heroic if he has no acorn or if someone tries to steal his acorn, making him a hero by proxy.
