There are no heroes... In life, the monsters win.
~ Sansa Stark's thoughts.
I did what I had to do to survive, my lady. But I am a Stark, I will always be a Stark.
~ Sansa to Lyanna Mormont in the tv series.

Sansa Stark is one of the main characters of the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series as well as it's HBO TV adaptation Game of Thrones. She is the eldest daughter of Lord Eddard Stark and Lady Catelyn Stark. Sansa has five siblings: three trueborn brothers King Robb Stark, Bran and Rickon, a younger sister Arya, and a half-brother Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, Jon Snow (revealed to be her cousin by blood in the television series). Sansa is 11 at the beginning of the book series and 13 at the beginning of the TV series. She is currently 13 in the novels and 20 in the TV series.

She was portrayed by Sophie Turner, who also portrayed the younger version of Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Her Good Ranking[]

Her Heroic Deeds[]

  • She is usually polite and well-spoken to everyone and is also merciful, fair and kind-hearted.
  • She genuinely loves her family, including her parents, who gruesomely perished in the Red Wedding, her brothers and is very protective of her family's allies.
  • Pleaded for her father's life to be spared after he was unjustly imprisoned for treason.
  • She talked Joffrey Baratheon out of killing the fool Dontos Hollard.
  • She genuinely loves Tyrion as her husband, albeit an unofficial, and he was probably her only husband who truly loved her and whom she was genuinely in love with.
  • She convinced Theon Greyjoy to regain his sanity and turn regain against Ramsay Bolton and join and help her escape the Bolton castle.
  • She tried to convince Theon to come to Castle Black with her and promised she wouldn't let Jon kill him for his past betrayal.
  • She supported her brother Jon Snow in the Battle of Bastards and brought the reinforcements of the knights from the House Vale, along with Littlefinger.
  • She killed Ramsay Bolton by having him eaten by his own dogs. Thus putting an end to his atrocities.
  • Had Arya execute Petyr Baelish for betraying their father, and while it was a violent action, because Littlefinger was helpless and begged for mercy, but he still deserved such death, because he never displayed any genuine attachment to anyone, loved only himself and was nothing but a cowardly, sadistic, manipulative, ruthless and self-serving psychopath, who killed multiple innocent people for his own benefit. This her action also made her popular among the Lords of the North.
  • While she didn't take any direct in the Battle of Winterfell, because she has never received any military training, but she still killed some wights with the knife given to her by Arya and helped Tyrion to fight them. She also worked to ensure there was ample food and supplies for everyone, even the common folk. She also helps plan the defense.
  • When after the death of Night King and the destruction of the Army of the Dead, Daenerys wanted to continue the war with Cersei Lannister and Euron Greyjoy and claim the Iron Throne and the Seven Kingdoms, which she claimed were hers by right, Sansa tried to persuade Daenerys not to do it, only for Daenerys to refuse from her pleads, and continue the war with the Lannisters.
  • She told Tyrion about Jon's true parentage and they decided to stop Daenerys, who was slowly succumbing to the infamous Targaryen Madness, from the conquest of Westeros and obtaining the Iron Throne,
  • Ultimately when Sansa's and Tyrion's fears about Daenerys's succumbing to the Targaryen Madness were proven to be true, when Daenerys murdered the tens of thousands of innocent people in the King's Landingand destroyed the city, Sansa understood that Daenerys wouldn't stop at her bloody conquest and would continue her quest for power on the other continents, lands and nations, Sansa decided to stop Daenerys from waging the further war and killing more innocent people and convinced Jon that he had to betray and stop his former queen and mistress in order to save the innocent lives.
  • When Daenerys was assasinated, by Jon, albeit he did it reluctantly and cried over her dead body, Snow was arrested by the Unsullied and their army were shocked by the death of their queen, and they wanted to execute Jon for killing Daenerys, Sansa, along with Arya and Bran and the other Lords of the North prevented Unsullied from executing her brother, by replacing the unfair execution with the much more merciful punishment by exiling Jon to the Night Watch, where he would serve for the benefit of humanity for the rest of his life.
  • In the finale of the series, after all trauma, abuse and humiliation she had suffered, Sansa was was crowned Queen of the North and ruled the Winterfell and the Northeners rightfully and fairly for therest of her life, remembering the debt and help that her family did by sacrificing their lives in order to save her.

Why She Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • Sansa greatly fails the admirable standards of the Game of Thrones universe and did only the standard heroism throughout all of the series. She never did anything special, such as winning the battle with only her efforts and while she brought the reinforcements of the knights of the House Vale to help her brother Jon Snow in the Battle of Bastards and even briefly participated in the battle of Winterfell, even managing to kill some wights with the knife given to her by her sister Arya, and she alongside Arya, Bran, Ser Davos Seaworth and all of the Northerners prevented Jon and Tyrion from being executed by the Unsullied, but she still fails the admirable standard far too great and her heroic deeds are pretty far too much standard to qualify to the higher moral scale of heroism.
  • She has a few lethal moments. For example, she ordered Arya to execute Petyr Baelish. In another case, she gave Ramsay Bolton to be eaten by dogs. However, considering how Ramsay Bolton and Petyr Baelish are evil and insensitive psychopaths who have committed many terrible and unforgivable acts, this is a minor prevention.
