I can't remember anything from before I lost like memory, so it's not like I have anything to compare it too. That's why I don't see my forgetfulness as a disadvantage... it's just a part of who I am.
~ Ryoko Otonashi.

Ryoko Otonashi (音無 涼子 Otonashi Ryōko) is the main protagonist of Danganronpa Zero. She is a student at Hope's Peak Academy, with the title of Ultimate Analyst (Super High School Level Analytical Prowess in the Japanese version). She is also the alternate personality of Junko Enoshima.

Her Good Ranking[]

Her Heroic Deeds[]

  • Despite suffering from severe amnesia, Ryoko consistently tried to act kindly and responsibly toward others, relying on her notebook to understand situations rather than acting recklessly.
  • She showed unwavering emotional loyalty to Yasuke Matsuda, repeatedly expressing concern for his well-being and vowing to protect him even when she could barely remember herself.
  • After discovering a murdered Steering Committee member, she attempted to report the incident and seek help rather than hide or exploit the situation, showing an instinctive sense of responsibility.
  • When threatened by Isshiki Madarai, Ryoko overcame her fear and used her analytical talent to escape, prioritizing survival without resorting to violence.
  • She repeatedly placed herself in danger while fleeing the Madarai brothers, enduring physical and emotional stress rather than sacrificing others to save herself.
  • Ryoko refused Mukuro Ikusaba’s suggestion to kill the Madarai brothers, demonstrating a firm moral boundary and an aversion to taking lives even under extreme pressure.
  • She chose to confront the truth behind the reserve course conspiracy instead of remaining safely ignorant, despite knowing that remembering more would bring her pain and fear.
  • After learning about Junko Enoshima’s goals, Ryoko resolved to protect Yasuke at all costs and rushed toward the old school building, driven purely by concern for his safety.
  • She willingly entered the abandoned school building and followed dangerous clues despite obvious manipulation, motivated by a genuine desire to prevent further tragedy.
  • Ryoko showed empathy toward victims of the Tragedy of Hope’s Peak Academy, particularly the tortured Steering Committee member, and agreed to help stop the reserve course uprising.
  • Even as her memories began to resurface, she struggled to preserve her own identity and humanity, resisting despair rather than embracing it.
  • Her existence as Ryoko represented a temporary suppression of Ultimate Despair, allowing a gentler, compassionate personality to act independently from Junko’s cruelty.
  • In Nagito Komaeda’s illusory world, Ryoko appears as a version of Junko devoid of despair, symbolizing the possibility of a self that can exist without harming others.

Why Doesn't She Stand Out?[]

  • Fails the high admirable standards of the franchise.
  • She has severe moral agency issues due to being an alternate amnesiac personality of Junko Enoshima withot having any of her previous memories.
  • After regaining her memories, she turns again into the Pure Evil Junko Enoshima, subverting any trace of goodness that she had a Ryoko Otonashi.
