Poppy Prescott is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Gru Jr.) of Illumination's 15th full-length feature film, Despicable Me 4.

Poppy is a teenage girl who is truthfully a supervillain in secret, but after teaming up with Gru to steal Lenny the Honey Badger from a villainous school and from Principal Übelschlecht's abusive nature towards Lenny in an attempt to get approved as a student for Lycee Pas Bon, Poppy eventually redeems herself and assists Gru in saving his son from Maxime Le Mal.

Poppy Prescott is voiced by Joey King, alongside the China Girl in Oz the Great and Powerful, Christine Parron in The Conjuring and Addy from The Simpsons.

Good Rankings[]

Heroic Deeds[]

  • While introduced as an intimidating supervillain at first who blackmailed Gru into performing her bidding, Poppy Prescott eventually became an honorable and affable girl when Gru becomes successful in following her commands.
  • Poppy successfully manages to steal Lenny the Honey Badger from a villainous school, whom Lenny serves as the mascot of such, and from Principal Übelschlecht's abusive nature towards Lenny. This is even more admirable considering that Principal Übelschlecht is known for having notable animal cruelty (even towards Lenny), even if it was only implied, demonstrated when Lenny cowered in fear when Principal Übelschlecht arrives to Gru's AVL safehouse. Not only that, this has indirectly led to Principal Übelschlecht's eventual defeat and incarceration, and her arrest led Lycée Pas Bon into peace at last.
  • Reconsidering her once dismissive nature towards Margo Gru, Poppy arrives at Gru's AVL safehouse to hang out with Margo, Edith, Agnes and Gru Junior, along with Lenny and the minions for a playdate to compensate for that.
  • Poppy shows surprisingly affable and affectionate towards Gru's infant son, Gru Junior, even during her mischievous and menacing moments with Gru, along with the fact that she had all rights to not care about him at all as she was only focusing on her planned heist with Gru.
  • Poppy helps Gru in saving his son from Maxime Le Mal with the ship stolen from the villainous school.

Why Doesn't She Stand Out?[]

  • Poppy fails the high admirable standards of the franchise, regardless if she has low resources or not.
  • During her introduction, Poppy blackmails and intimidates Gru to follow her command, even going as far as mocking and exposing Gru's true nature as a supervillain (even though he has retired from it). This makes Poppy Prescott to much of an arrogant control freak to be considered NPG.
  • She is On & Off as she went right back to villainy at the end of the film by attending the villain school.
