~ Popo's famous catchphrase. |
Popo is the titular main protagonist of Nintendo's video game series, Ice Climber. Popo is Nana's partner and serves as the leader of the pioneer mountaineer duo, the Ice Climbers. Popo is typically dressed in a indigo inuit parka outfit, and wields a wooden mallet as his sole weapon for combat.
To fittingly reflect his characteristic leitmotifs, Popo, true to his epitome as a pioneer mountaineer, seeks to scale various glacial and enormous mountains, yet must also avoid various obstacles and antagonists during their routes to each summit. In order to successfully accomplish each level, Popo and Nana must catch a vegetable-stealing condor. In his illustrious timeline, Popo, alongside Nana, has pursued the aforementioned condor who, peculiarly, had possession of cucumbers, eggplants, and various other vegetables, while fending off Polar Bears, Nitpickers and Topis along their routes.
Popo, alongside Nana, is voiced by Sanae Kobayashi, who also voiced Kaede in Elfen Lied, Allen Walker from D.Gray-man, Reiko Natsume from Natsume's Book of Friends and Alexis Rhodes from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX.
Good Rankings[]
Heroic Deeds[]
- Popo has a blood bond with Nana, which is a long-standing custom practiced around the world that involves a pair of distinct people swearing loyalty to one another. Thus, Popo and Nana have pristine loyalty and dedication to each other, promising each other to never leave each other behind, and have been relentlessly reliant on each other for paramount and superb teamwork. This is also demonstrated in the scene during the opening movie of Super Smash Bros. Melee, where Popo and Nana high-five each other with a small heart emerging from where their hands meet.[2]
- As a sophisticated and egalitarianic leader of the duo, Popo wastes no time protecting and guiding Nana during their adventures.
- While Popo's reliance on Nana for teamwork can benefit their enemies to separate the duo rather effortlessly, Popo will have the capability to immediately return to Nana and defend her from their enemies, saving Nana from her doom.
- Popo shows pure friendship, gratification and care for Nana.
- This is demonstrated in the opening movie of Super Smash Bros. Melee, where Popo climbs the Icicle Mountain and stands on an unstable platform of ice, which dissolves, but Nana arrives to grab his hand to save him in a nick of time just before he starts falling towards the bottom of the entire mountain. Popo smiles thankfully for Nana's savior, further encouraging Popo's support for her.[3]
- In the illustrious timeline in Ice Climber, Popo has teamed up with Nana to brace themselves together to scale countless amount of giant, glacial, very digressive and often narrow mountains, including the Infinite Glacier, filled with several Topis, Nitpickers and Polar Bears to regain stolen vegetables and confront the vegetable-stealing condor without fear of the mountains posing as a risk to them should either Popo and Nana fall down to the bottom, which means Popo demonstrates heroism.
- Popo's heroism shows that not only is he heavily desired and thrilled in scaling mountains, but is also entertained with challenging other people in such topic, even disregarding the potential danger he will drag himself and Nana into, demonstrated when Popo and Nana challenged Meta Knight into scaling the Glacial Peak.
- Despite this, that does not mean Popo (and Nana) demonstrates arrogance, as Popo and Nana were scaling the Glacial Peak to access the Battleship Halberd (battling against the Great Fox), not out of tyranny, while effortlessly fending off a considerable portion of the Subspace Army, as well as from the canyon.
- Like Nana, Popo is shown to be very sympathetic and harmonizing, as despite being a fighter himself, he is ironically not entertained in watching rivalry, clashing between arch-enemies and heroes fighting against each other, demonstrated when Popo and Nana spectate the fight between Lucario and Meta Knight in fear when accessing the top of the Glacial Peak the Subspace Emissary. Shortly after the fight, Lucario and Meta Knight reconciliate with each other, which delights Popo and Nana now that they are teaming up with each other instead of continuing to be rivals, which means that Popo not only has pleasure in rivals redeeming each other, but also means that Popo desires redeeming with enemies/villains themselves to encourage teaming up with them as well. This genuinely makes Popo a harmonizing pacifist.
- Popo does not show grudge against Meta Knight and Lucario for boarding the Battleship Halberd and leaving the him and Nana to fall down to the canyon after the Halberd crashed the Great Fox into the summit of the Glacial Peak.
- Alongside Nana, Popo has saved the world from Tabuu in the Subspace Emissary, as well as from Galeem and Dharkon in the World of Light.
Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- Popo's heroism revolves around nothing more than standard leadership and protection, as he often protects and accompanies Nana under all circumstances without performing much admirable actions.
- While Popo and Nana are relentlessly loyal to each other and manage to save each other from danger, the latter is shown to have saved Popo from danger more than him saving Nana from such, demonstrated by the opening movie of Super Smash Bros. Melee, where Popo climbs the Icicle Mountain and stands on an unstable platform of ice, which dissolves, but Nana arrives to grab his hand to save him in a nick of time just before he starts falling towards the bottom of the entire mountain. This makes Popo far too insufficient for NPG or PG.
