I am sure Dumbledore would have wanted the school to remain open. I feel that if a single pupil wants to come, then the school ought to remain open for that pupil.
~ Professor Sprout welcoming all students into Hogwarts, and embedding all the virtues of Hufflepuff.

Pomona Sprout is a minor protagonist in the Harry Potter franchise. She is a Herbology professor from Hufflepuff that supports all the qualities of her house, and is a key supporter for Hogwarts. She was among the many staff members that opposed Umbridge's tenure, and played an important part in protecting Hogwarts from Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters.

She was portrayed by Miriam Margolyes.

Her Good Ranking[]

Her Heroic Deeds[]

  • She represents all the qualities of a Hufflepuff, and remained very supportive and loyal to Hogwarts during her experience as both a student and professor.
  • Remained very supportive with Minerva McGonagall and the two helped each other during their school years both emotionally and academically.
  • As a Herbology professor, she used her expertise in the subject to aid other Hufflepuff students, to the point where they were renowned for their proficiency in the subject.
  • When a Hufflepuff student dueled with a Ravenclaw student, she warned rather than punished him.
  • When multiple Hogwarts students were sent to the hospital wing from doxy bites, she grew ingredients for the antidote in the greenhouse.
  • Helped protect the Sorcerer's Stone from Voldemort.
  • Helped provide Mandrake Restorative Draught to cure students who were petrified from the Basilisk. She was horrified to know about Ginny's predicament, and was furious at Lockhart for doing nothing to ease the situation.
  • Helped provide treatment for acne.
  • Mourned alongside other students and staff on Cedric Diggory's death.
  • Opposed Umbridge's corrupt and biased tenure, and continued to support all students and staff in any ways possible.
  • Mourned alongside all the Hogwarts students and staff on Dumbledore's death.
  • Despite Voldemort's grasp on the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts, she continued to teach to protect students and staff from Death Eaters as much as possible.
  • Helped produce flora like Devil's Snare that would combat Death Eaters, and assisted other students in conjuring spells and plants.
  • Treated members's wounds from the Order of the Phoenix and Dumbledore's Army during the hour-long ceasefire.
  • Helped provide remedies to those affected by the Calamity.
  • She lacks corrupting qualities and always serves to lighten the mood of the story.

Why She Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • Most of her heroism relies on supportive heroism, causing her to fail the in-story standards to Severus Snape, Albus Dumbledore, and even Minerva McGonagall (who also fails the admirable standards to the former two herself), who all played more active roles in protecting Hogwarts or helping defeat Voldemort.
