Penny Fitzgerald is a major character in the animated series The Amazing World of Gumball. She is the love interest and eventual girlfriend of Gumball Watterson.
She is a student in Miss Simian's class at Elmore Jr. High and a member of the school's cheerleading team. At first, she appears as a humanoid peanut with antlers, but in "The Shell," she breaks free and reveals her true form as a golden, shapeshifting fairy (also the same episode she and Gumball start dating).
She is voiced by Teresa Gallagher.
Her Good Ranking[]
Her Heroic Deeds[]
In General[]
- She is very loving towards Gumball, as she constantly gives him unconditional emotional support and care in spite of his antics and occasional negligence or mistreatment of her. She also loves her family and is protective of her little sister Polly.
- She is overall a great friend and good person, as she frequently sticks up for her friends and fellow students at Elmore Jr. high.
Season 1[]
- In "The Gi," while all of the students are bullying Gumball for his poor karate skills and obsession with it as a hobby, she is the only person to stick up for him and chastises all of the students for mocking him. This stops Gumball from crying and warms Nicole's heart, prompting her to return Richard's superhero cape from when he was younger.
- In "The Mystery," she helps solve the mystery of who knocked out Principal Brown and left him inside Gumball's locker.
- In "The Kiss," she cheers on Gumball as he goes through Darwin's trials to get over his traumatic kiss with Granny Jojo.
Season 2[]
- In "The Knights," she defends Gumball from Tobias as he attacks him with a bat for choosing Penny as his partner in a school project.
- In "The Photo," she helps Tina become better at cheerleading and acrobatics to make the team.
- In "The Storm," she assists Gumball, Darwin, and Alan in trying to calm down Masami as she goes on a rampage at the school and tries to kidnap Alan. She first tries to talk Masami out of it and then holds on to the fire hose as Gumball hangs on to it and goes inside Masami's tornado to save Alan.
- In "The Flower," she defends Leslie from a Jealousy-possessed Gumball who is attacking him. Later, she (alongside Carrie, Leslie, and Darwin) help exorcise the jealousy out of Gumball.
Season 4[]
- In "The Romantic," she follows Gumball's romantic quest and then later saves the two of them from the Forest Creatures by becoming angry, shapeshifting into a dragon and breathing fire on them.
- In "The Blame," she participates in the "Books Are Violent" song to persuade the students' parents against Felicity Parham regarding her hypocritical attitude towards video games.
Season 5[]
- In "The Ex," she tries to help Gumball cope with Rob not being his nemesis anymore and suggests they become friends, even though he consistently ignores her in the process.
Why Doesn't She Stand Out?[]
- While saving Gumball's life from the wild animals is enough for her to pass the baseline many of her other actions are just being nice and supportive, and as a result she fails the admirable standards to all of the Watterson family (except Richard), Alan, Carrie, and Rob.
- She can be wrathful and acts like a sarcastic jerk a few times in the series: she is well-known for transforming into a fire-breathing dragon or a gorgon when she is angry. However, it is a somewhat minor prevention, as it usually only happens when she is provoked in some way.
