Nguyen is a major character of the We Bare Bears franchise, being a supporting character in the 2015 Cartoon Network original series of the same name, and its 2020 series finale film adaption, We Bare Bears: The Movie.
As the tallest and most experienced member of the Poppies, Nguyen is the second-in-command of the Poppy Rangers, and like her fellow Poppies, Nguyen is a brave and adventurous little girl scout/park ranger and troop who has a close friendship with Ranger Tabes and the bears, more especially Grizzly. Nguyen shows high commitment to her aforementioned fellow Poppy Rangers, but Nguyen is more silent and confident, yet more wise and mature than the other Poppy Rangers, like Parker. Additionally, Nguyen has more hyperawareness than the other Poppies. Outside of her career as a park ranger like Ranger Tabes, Nguyen is typically seen casually playing with the other Poppy Rangers and having fun, more especially by having tissue and pillow fights with the other Poppy Rangers, and/or flying kites with them.
Ngyuen is voiced by Audrey Huynh, who also voices Stella Cho from XO, Kitty, Kim Jun-hee in the English dub of Squid Game, and the Namashitas from The Boss Baby: Back in Business.
Her Good Ranking[]
Her Heroic Deeds[]
- In general, Ngyuen is a supportive, affable and dedicated girl who is heavily beneficial in numerous situations, showing high loyalty towards her fellow Poppy Rangers and more especially, Ranger Tabes and Grizz Bear, and Ngyuen is almost never overconfident and incompetent in her heroism compared to the aforementioned two, respectively, as with the other Poppies.
- Ngyuen typically follows all of Ranger Tabes and Grizzly's commands, even if they are too risky.
- Despite fluctuating from time to time, Ngyuen builds a huge friendship towards Grizz Bear, even though she was astonished to encounter him for the first time, frantically yelling out "A bear with a backpack!" upon first meeting Grizz, similar to Chloe's first interaction with the three bears. Additionally, Ngyuen even refers him as "Bear Guy" or "Mr. Bear," rather than just aliasing him as a traditional bear animal by basically calling him "Bear," like the other Poppies, which references Grizz and his fellow twin brothers' philanthropic interaction with the human race.
- Alongside the other Poppies, Ngyuen saved Wallace from Hurricane Hal, even if it endangered herself.
- While Nguyen likely sounded a bit too arrogant on bragging about Grizz's incompetence and how he managed to start a series of flames that were otherwise impossible to do so while attaining the other previous Camping Poppy Badges before attempting to attain the Island Camping Badges, as well as having a wrathful and failure-intolerant outburst towards Grizz for foiling the remaining plan to seek nourishment by attempting to shoot a bird with a flare gun to make usage of it for nutrition, both instances are virtually understandable because both moments are for Grizz to reform from his incompetence, as Grizz started a fire while attaining the Forest Camping Badge, which would have started a forest fire.
- Nguyen and Wallace prepared the fire extinguisher while Diaz and Grizz prepare the campfire, in case if Grizz unintentionally causes another fire and states that "he didn't do it," which would potentially cause an island fire if the campfire spreads everywhere.
- Nguyen is a voice of pure reason in several occasions:
- When Ranger Tabes encourages Nguyen and the other Poppies to explore the dark cave for the Spelunking Badge, Nguyen and the other Poppies were reluctant on it and tried to reason with her, with Nguyen confessing to Tabes that the Spelunking Badge is not worth it for embarking through the formidable Howling Mountain Cave, fearing the danger they will get themselves into (and sided with Grizz in deciding to take the safer route of the cave), such as being eventually stranded in the cave, and Ranger Tabes felt insecure and pessimistic when they did get stranded, but Nguyen encouraged her that she is still an excellent forest ranger, motivating Tabes into optimism and getting herself, Grizz, Nguyen and the other Poppy Rangers out of the cave.
- Nguyen even altered Grizz that Wallace is outside flying her kite in the Hurricane Hal, prompting Grizz, Nguyen and the other Poppies to save Wallace from the hurricane.
- After the Ranger War in the episode, Lord of the Poppies, Nguyen was reluctant on eating Grizz, even though she and the other Poppies kidnapped him in the first place to do so, but this was out of insanity from immense starvation, and even Grizz himself allowed Nguyen and the Poppies to devour him in order to keep them alive, so this is understandable.
- Despite being dismissive of Grizz and his incompetence in the annual Peewee Ranger Games, Nguyen eventually motivates and encourages him to defeat the Ivy Rangers, and feels remorseful of dismissing Grizz and his initial lack of skill in the annual game, more especially through cheerleading, in which Grizz reforms his incompetence because of this, a sentiment that would go on over the course of the series.
- While Ranger Tabes and Grizz are more admirable than Nguyen and the other Poppies throughout the series, both of them have far more resources than Nguyen as Tabes and Grizz boast almost superhuman physical strength, and the latter even possesses sharp claws and the ability to unleash a loud and devastating roar. Meanwhile, Nguyen is just a little girl with genius-level intelligence and expert usage of spikesmanship.
- Nguyen, alongside the other Poppy Rangers and their fellow commander, Ranger Tabes, assisted Grizz Bear, Ice Bear and Panda Bear in defeating Agent Trout, leading to his well-deserved imprisonment and preventing Trout from unlawfully capturing and torturing the three Bears.
Why She Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- While saving Wallace from Hurricane Hal, offering Grizz and Ranger Tabes a immense positive influence to reform themselves from their corrupting factors, and preventing Agent Trout from unlawfully imprisoning Grizz, Panda and Ice Bear allows her to pass the baseline, Nguyen heavily fails the high admirable standards of the We Bare Bears franchise, more especially to the three bears, including Grizz, and even Ranger Tabes and Wallace, since her heroism is just supportive.
- Despite Nguyen's aforementioned loyalty towards the other Poppies, Nguyen is still eager and arrogant enough to still argue and bicker with the other Poppies from time to time. Additionally, Nguyen has the least patience of Grizz's incompetence, like Wallace.
- While having the mindset and personality to be qualified as such, Nguyen is shown to be too dissociative and lethal to be qualified as Pure Good: this is demonstrated in the infamous scene in the episode, Lord of the Poppies, where she and the other Poppies fall into insanity after succumbing to immense starvation and having had enough of Grizz's incompetence in attempting to nourish them, going as far as turning against Grizz and attempting to devour him. Furthermore, Nguyen is also too control freakish and berserking, shown during the brutal Ranger War, Nguyen insulted and brutally fought the other Poppies for the guidebook to attain leadership, just to rule over the other Poppies out of ruthlessness. Nguyen, in particular, went as far as throwing wooden spikes toward Diaz for the guidebook, which heavily endangered the latter. Even before that, Nguyen threatened to boil Grizz into stew without visible signs of remorse for it.
