“ | I don't know how else to bring this up. But there's been something I've been worried about. Yuri has been acting kind of strange lately. You've only been here a few days, so you may not know what I mean. But she's not normally like this. She's always been quiet and polite and attentive...things like that.
I've always wanted to try being better friends with Yuri, and it really hurts me to see this happening. I know I'm going to hate myself later for admitting that, but right now I don't care. I just feel so helpless. So please see if you can do something to help. I don't want anything bad to happen to her. I'll make you cupcakes if I have to. Just please try to do something. As for Monika... I don't know why, but she's been really dismissive about this. It's like she just wants us to ignore it. So I'm mad at her right now, and that's why I'm coming to you about this. DON'T LET HER KNOW I WROTE THIS!!!! Just pretend like I gave you a really good poem, okay? I'm counting on you. Thanks for reading. |

~ Natsuki's final poem to the protagonist. |
“ | Look...Yuri. You really are the most talented here. And...And you're going to help to make the event a lot more fun and welcoming. I mean the cupcakes will probably help a lot too...But you're gonna make the atmosphere special. That'll be really important for the way that people feel during the performances. So... you need to stop being dumb and give yourself a little more credit! | „ |
~ Natsuki to Yuri |
Natsuki is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Yuri) of the visual novel, Doki Doki Literature Club!. She is Yuri's best friend and former rival. She is one of the two tritagonists in the game's Act 1 and Act 4, and the deuteragonist in Act 2. Natsuki is also one of the three characters for whom the player can write poems, as well as one of the five members of the Literature Club.
Natsuki is introduced to play off the trope of small-but-feisty tsundere girl, as discussed by Monika in Act 3. Natsuki lives in a tragic and phlegmatic household with a strict and magnanimous father and a deceased mother, whose death results in her father's post-traumatic stress disorder and becoming an alcoholic, as well as becoming sexually and emotionally abusive at occasions, before becoming physically abusive in Act 2. Her father finds manga childish, so Natsuki joined the literature club to store her manga collection in order to evade dilemma with her father if he caught her reading it.
Her Good Ranking[]
Her Heroic Deeds[]
- Although Natsuki is the embodiment of a tsundere with serious anger issues, Natsuki possesses a softer, more considerate and gracious interior upon insecurity.
- Even when she has obvious issues with her anger, she is not entertained with fighting nor arguing with people, like Yuri.
- Natsuki suppressed her true feelings for the protagonist. However, this is not to spite the player, but also because to make sure that her fate would not end up like Yuri and Sayori, who had to suffer gruesome deaths upon confessing their love to the protagonist (by Monika), thus leading to Monika deleting Natsuki at the end of Act 2 and progressing to Act 3, only for Monika to meet her defeat, thus making Natsuki at least posthumously admirable, as her deletion is what led to Monika's fate at the end of Act 3, forcing her to restore her friends and everything in Act 4.
- Natsuki displays high loyalty and care about her friends.
- In more specific information, it is shown that she worries about Yuri over the course of the Literature Club, and, on one occasion, she gives the protagonist a note asking him to help Yuri, fearing that further and more intensive arguments will occur if interfering with her while simultaneously recognizing that there is something wrong with her.
- Natsuki and Yuri plan to head to the bookstore together in Act 4.
- She even shows empathy for Sayori's depression, even though she was possessive about the relationship between her and the protagonist at first.
- Natsuki is even hyperaware of Monika's influence within the Literature Club, especially in Act 2.
- Another circumstantial point includes Natsuki witnessing Yuri's decaying corpse in horror at the end of Act 2 after the latter commits suicide after the protagonist accepts/rejects her confession. This implies that not only does Natsuki truly care about her, but this also means that she is especially horrified and heartbroken that she lost her best friend very suddenly, something that she did not expect (although she did tease her about cutting herself, she never expected her to actually stab herself with a knife), even after Yuri told Natsuki to "look for some coins under the vending machines" and bullied her on numerous occasions in Act 2.
- Natsuki's factors of possessiveness and assertiveness are due to her implied abusive and heavily strict father. However, that does not mean Natsuki despises her father, as he is far too tragic to be even considered a villainous benchmark, as the death of Natsuki's mother results in her father's post-traumatic stress disorder and becoming an alcoholic, as well as becoming sexually and emotionally abusive at occasions, before becoming physically abusive in Act 2, the latter of which is due to Monika's manipulations. Thus, Natsuki's abrasive nature is a coping mechanism to retain it a secret from everybody.
- In turn, while Natsuki's father even became neglectful of her daughter, not even offering her lunch money nor feeding her either most of the time (thus resulting in Natsuki's undernourishment), this is due to the alcohol intoxication causing her father to forget to do so for her, not out of neglectful intentions, which Natsuki completely understands.
Why She Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- Natsuki fails the admirable standards to the protagonist, who deletes Monika and forces her to restore everything she has deleted at the end of Act 3, even though Natsuki suppressed her feelings up to Act 2 that her fate would not end up like Yuri and Sayori, who suffered gruesome and painful deaths, and Natsuki is posthumously the reason Monika progressed to Act 3 and the player deleted her in the end. Even outside of that, Natsuki's heroism revolves around nothing more than standard kindness and supportive heroism, thus being polite and complementing other people without performing much admirable actions. Although she does plan to perform admirable deeds for them, none of them are ever perceived nor even done so.
- Natsuki is too wrathful and egotistic to be considered NPG. She especially is known for her infamous backtalks towards the other club members, teasing Yuri about her big breasts and, in Act 2, cutting herself. Additionally, her embodiment as a tsundere causes her to be too much of a jerk, a sentiment shared with all of the other "tsundere" characters, although this is completely understandable due to having tragic pasts and using their assertiveness and arrogance as coping mechanisms.
