~ Nana's famous catchphrase. |
Nana is the titular deuteragonist of Nintendo's video game series, Ice Climber. Nana is Popo's partner and serves as the sidekick of the pioneer mountaineer duo, the Ice Climbers. Nana is typically dressed in a pink inuit parka outfit, and wields a wooden mallet as her sole weapon for combat.
To fittingly reflect her characteristic leitmotifs, Nana, true to her epitome as a pioneer mountaineer, seeks to scale various glacial and enormous mountains, yet must also avoid various obstacles and antagonists during their routes to each summit. In order to successfully accomplish each level, Nana and Popo must catch a vegetable-stealing condor. In her illustrious timeline, Nana, alongside Popo, has pursued the aforementioned condor who, peculiarly, had possession of cucumbers, eggplants, and various other vegetables, while fending off Polar Bears, Nitpickers and Topis along their routes.
Nana, alongside Popo, is voiced by Sanae Kobayashi, who also voiced Kaede in Elfen Lied, Allen Walker from D.Gray-man, Reiko Natsume from Natsume's Book of Friends and Alexis Rhodes from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX.
Good Rankings[]
What Makes Her Heroic?[]
- Nana has a blood bond with Popo, which is a long-standing custom practiced around the world that involves a pair of distinct people swearing loyalty to one another. Thus, Nana and Popo have pristine loyalty and dedication to each other, promising each other to never leave each other behind, and have been relentlessly reliant on each other for paramount and superb teamwork. This is also demonstrated in the scene during the opening movie of Super Smash Bros. Melee, where Nana and Popo high-five each other with a small heart emerging from where their hands meet.[2]
- Nana serves as the fellow loyal sidekick of Popo and follows him through all of his whereabouts, even if it puts herself into danger.
- Without Nana, Popo cannot stand up for himself as effectively. Therefore, Nana relentlessly assists Popo in fighting prowess.
- Nana shows pure friendship, gratification and care for Popo.
- Nana displays a humorous, optimistic and genki girl-esque overall personality that appeals to other people.
- While Nana's reliance on Popo for teamwork can benefit their enemies to separate the duo rather effortlessly, Nana will have the capability to immediately return to Popo and defend him from their enemies, saving Popo from his doom.
- In the opening movie of Super Smash Bros. Melee, where Popo climbs the Icicle Mountain and stands on an unstable platform of ice, which dissolves, Nana arrives to grab his hand to save him in a nick of time just before he starts falling victim towards the bottom of the entire mountain.[3]
- In the illustrious timeline in Ice Climber, Nana has teamed up with Popo to brace themselves together to scale countless amount of giant, glacial, very digressive and often narrow mountains, including the Infinite Glacier, filled with several Topis, Nitpickers and Polar Bears to regain stolen vegetables and confront the vegetable-stealing condor without fear of the mountains posing as a risk to them should either Nana and Popo fall down to the bottom, which means Nana demonstrates heroism.
- Nana's heroism shows that not only is she heavily desired and thrilled in scaling mountains, but is also entertained with challenging other people in such topic, even disregarding the potential danger she will drag herself and Popo into, demonstrated when Nana and Popo challenged Meta Knight into scaling the Glacial Peak.
- Despite this, that does not mean Nana (and Popo) demonstrates arrogance, as Nana and Popo were scaling the Glacial Peak to access the Battleship Halberd (battling against the Great Fox), not out of tyranny, while effortlessly fending off a considerable portion of the Subspace Army, as well as from the canyon.
- Like Popo, Nana is shown to be very sympathetic and harmonizing, as despite being a fighter herself, she is ironically not entertained in watching rivalry, clashing between arch-enemies and heroes fighting against each other, demonstrated when Nana and Popo spectate the fight between Lucario and Meta Knight in fear when accessing the top of the Glacial Peak the Subspace Emissary. Shortly after the fight, Lucario and Meta Knight reconciliate with each other, which delights Nana and Popo now that they are teaming up with each other instead of continuing to be rivals, which means that Nana not only has pleasure in rivals redeeming each other, but also means that Nana desires redeeming with enemies/villains themselves to encourage teaming up with them as well. This genuinely makes Nana a harmonizing pacifist.
- Nana does not show grudge against Meta Knight and Lucario for boarding the Battleship Halberd and leaving her and Popo to fall down to the canyon after the Halberd crashed the Great Fox into the summit of the Glacial Peak.
- Alongside Popo, Nana has saved the world from Tabuu in the Subspace Emissary, as well as from Galeem and Dharkon in the World of Light.
What Prevents Her From Standing Out?[]
- Nana is far too insufficient to be considered NPG or PG. While saving Popo from falling down from the Icicle Mountain during the opening movie of Melee is unquestionably admirable, Nana's true heroism amounts to just that and supportive heroism. Alongside this, she also massively fails the admirable standards of the Super Smash Bros. series: such examples include King Dedede, who attached Dedede Brooches on Ness and Luigi to be resurrected in recovery from Tabuu's infamous off waves, Sonic, who shattered Tabuu's wings, and Kirby, who survived Galeem's mass genocide and resurrected numerous fighters in World of Light, among others.
- She is often mischievous and dimwitted, tending to not pay full attention in serious scenarios and/or being inelegant when it comes to sticking with Popo. Additionally, Nana cannot protect herself from danger when she is separated from Popo. However, the reason for this is due to Nana's misguidance, along with her young and naïve personality, while this can easily be avoided by Popo protecting her, so this is a minor prevention.
