Beatrice Potts (better known as Mrs. Potts) is one of the supporting characters in Disney's 30th full-length animated feature of 1991, Beauty and the Beast. She is Prince Adam's wise housekeeper and the mother of Chip Potts who became a teapot during the Enchantress' curse.
Since the original film, she was voiced by the late Dame Angela Lansbury and by Dame Anne Rogers in Belle's Magical World. In the Broadway, she was portrayed by Beth Fowler and was voiced and portrayed by Dame Emma Thompson in the 2017 live action remake.
She is a loving and protective mother of Chip and her children.
Unlike Lumiere and Cogsworth, she lacks any troublesome quirks and arguments, as she acts as the voice of reason.
Her stern attitude has a strong effect whenever the Beast loses his temper.
She overall has no corrupting qualities.
Beauty and the Beast[]
She serves teas to Maurice in order to make him comfortable.
She comforts Belle and assures her that everything will turn out well in the end.
Thanks to Cogsworth and Lumiere, Mrs. Potts also participated in the castle battle against the rioters led by Gaston.
She, Cogsworth, and Lumiere express their sadness when the Beast nearly died of his wounds that was inflicted by Gaston, who fell to his doom.
Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas[]
During a Christmas party, she narrated the servants about the time when Belle help the Beast get over his former hatred of Christmas.
Even when they are going against the Beast's rules about Anti-Christmas, Mrs. Potts and Lumiere did it for the right reason and secretly made arrangements.
Belle's Magical World[]
She is the first servant to understand the plan to write a fake apology letter by Webster, Crane and Le Plume.
She becomes sad about the banishment of Webster, Crane and Le Plume, and informs Belle that it's best to apologize to the Beast.
In Mrs. Pott's Party, she becomes depressed about her surprise party, thanks to Lumiere and Cogsworth's rivalry, but the rivalry between the two is put aside when they work together to cure Mrs. Potts of her depression.
Why She Doesn't Stand Out?[]
While she crosses the general baseline by warning the Beast about the invaders and partakes in defending the castle, Mrs. Potts fails the high admirable standards to both Lumiere and Cogsworth because she was just following their orders to defend the castle.
Not only that, she also fails to Belle, who took her father’s place as a prisoner and redeems the Beast, which allows him and his servants to regain their human forms, and the Beast, who destroyed Forte in order to save Belle and his servants.
