~ ~ Loki's final promise to Thor |
Loki Laufeyson is a major character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is Thor's adoptive brother and the God of mischief, serving as a long-standing antagonist before his redemption.
He was portrayed by Tom Hiddleston.
His Good Ranking[]
His Heroic Deeds[]
In General[]
- His loyalty to his family, especially his love for his adoptive mother, Frigga, is evident despite his mischievous nature, he deeply cares for his adoptive family.
Thor[]
- When he confronts Odin regarding his heritage and causes him to fall into the Odinsleep, he becomes truly worried and confused, calling the Einherjar for aid.
- Even though it was for fully pragmatic reasons he still saved Odin from Laufey (even though Loki let him in Asgard to begin with).
- Although all his actions are unjustifiable, he still genuinely wanted to end the war with Jotunheim.
Thor: The Dark World[]
- He was truly impacted by Frigga’s death and destroyed his entire cell in painful grief and guilt.
- He agreed to help Thor stop Malekith and to avenge Frigga.
- He helped Thor and Jane Foster reach Svartalfheim by going through a secret location with an Asgardian Skiff.
- He tricked the Dark Elves by using his illusions to make it seem as if he had betrayed Thor and pledged his allegiance to them.
- He shielded Jane from the explosion caused by Thor using lightning against the Aether.
- When Kurse threw a Black Hole Grenade at Jane, he pushed her out of the way with no hesitation and was almost sucked into it himself before being saved by Thor.
- He saved Thor’s life by killing Kurse with one of his own Black Hole Grenades, thus avenging Frigga’s death, even though he later used this to fake his death and usurp the throne.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.[]
- While disguised as Odin, he sent Sif to Earth to capture Lorelei and later to investigate the presence of Kree on the planet. These actions were done with seemingly no pragmatic reason, though it’s possible he was trying to keep Sif away from Asgard to keep his ruse.
Thor: Ragnarok[]
- He and Thor put their differences aside to take on Hela after Odin’s death.
- He tried to use the Bifrost to send himself and Thor back to Asgard after realizing how immensely powerful Hela was, though this resulted in her following them through the Bifrost back to Asgard.
- He tried to convince Thor to stay in Saakar and usurp the Grandmaster’s power instead of facing Hela, fearing that she could kill them both.
- He offered to help the Revengers escape Saakar in the condition he be taken with them
- He and Thor defeated all the sakaaran guards together to steal the ship, even using “Get Help”, a technique Loki loathed.
- Even though he betrayed Thor, after being saved by Korg and the rebellion he has a change of heart and accompanies them in the Statesman back to Asgard to fight Hela.
- He fought in the Rainbow Bridge against Hela’s Berserker army to make time for the Asgardians to evacuate.
- He went to Odin’s vault to use the Crown of Fire and the Eternal Flame to resurrect Surtur so that he may destroy Asgard resulting in Hela’s defeat.
- He makes amends with his brother, accepting him as King of Asgard.
Avengers: Infinity War[]
- Threatened with Thor’s death as Thanos tortured him with the Power Stone, he handed the Tesseract over to save his brother’s life.
- He pushed Thor out of harm’s way as the Hulk charged at Thanos, disregarding the Tesseract in the process.
- He feigned servitude to Thanos in one last desperate attempt to save Thor and kill the Mad Titan, which resulted in his real death, but his brother was saved.
Avengers: Endgame[]
- His and Heimdall’s deaths pushed Thor to defeat Thanos and his 2014 counterpart.
Why He Doesn't Stand Out[]
- He fails the massive admirable standards of the MCU to Thor (who in addition to helping defeat Hela, played more active role in defeating Thanos, played a more direct role in defeating Malekith to prevent him from destroying the Nine Realms, helped defeat Ultron saving humanity from being wiped out and more) with similar resources and screentime.
- Most of his heroic deeds on Phase 1 and 2 are done out of self-conservation rather than a genuine desire to do good, before he finally redeems himself and becomes good out of his own volition.
- He is too mischievous (being the God of Mischief himself) as even before his heinous deeds he still played many pranks on Asgard such as shaving part of Sif's head and turning himself into a snake to trick Thor and stab him.
- He is very lethal having no qualms with killing his foes, even Laufey, his biological father.
- He acts like a jerk way too often.
- Even after his redemption he still shows little to no remorse for most of his crimes such as his invasion of New York or his lazy rule over Asgard which allowed the Nine Realms to fall into chaos.
Trivia[]
- Ironically, the TVA Version of Loki is Near Pure Good due to renouncing nearly all of his villainous traits as well as making himself the linchpin of the Multiverse.
- For a long time he used to be considered Inconsistently Admirable but was moved here when it was decided other heroes with similar or fewer resources and screentime outranked him in admirableness, particularly Thor.
