King Triton is a major character in The Little Mermaid franchise. His character is somewhat similar to the Greek Mythology sea god, Poseidon.
He was voiced by the late Kenneth Mars in the first two films, and by Jim Cummings in the third film in English and the late Akira Kume in Japanese. He is portrayed in the live action remake by Javier Bardem.

- He's a good king to his kingdom, a good husband to his wife, a good father to his daughters, good father-in-law to his son-in-law and a good grandfather to his granddaughter.
- While he forbids music, it's because he's in a grief and he later cancels this forbid.
- He forbids his subjects to contact people out of security reasons, because he lost his beloved wife Queen Athena perished because of humans, not to mention that lots of fish (who are also Triton's subjects) die because of human. He scolds Ariel for a saving a human male because he thinks she acted recklessly and while he does destroy her grotto, it was a flash of rage and he didn't want to harm Ariel at all, not to mention he regretted about his action.
- He attempts to save Ariel from Ursula and even sacrifices himself to do so.
- He accepts Ariel's choice to marry Eric and changes his attitude to people.
- He gifts a medalion to his granddaughter Melody and attempts to protect her from Morgana.
- He goes to Morgana's lair to save both of his daughter and granddaughter Ariel and Melody respectively.
- He defeats Morgana.
- He accepts his granddaughter's choice to unite the state of people and the Atlantic.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- He fails the admirable standard of The Little Mermaid.
- While he did subvert his grief after his wife's death, he let it get the better of him. Due to that he commits such acts as destroying Ariel's grotto and even if his motivation of destroying her grotto is understandable, it's still a prevention.
