King Harrow is the overarching protagonist of the Netflix animated series The Dragon Prince. He was the previous king of Katolis, the step-father of Callum, the biological father of Ezran, and the second husband of Sarai. He was assassinated by Runaan as revenge for killing Avizandum, the king of the dragons.

He was voiced by Luc Roderique.

His Good Ranking[]

His Heroic Deeds[]

  • He was initially against asking Sarai for marriage as even though he loved her, he didn't want to make her life more complicated as he thought she was still grieving over the loss of her first husband, which had happened a year prior.
  • Despite Callum not being his biological son, Harrow tried his best to be a good father figure for Callum, even if he didn't know how.
  • He gave Callum a sketchbook so he could draw and write what he wanted.
  • He worked tiressly to help the people of Katolis, with Viren saying that he saw himself as a "servant king" and felt obliged to help the people of Katolis in any way he could.
  • He gave the people of Duren part of Katolis' food supply so they would be able to go through a famine their kingdom was going through.
  • He organized a plan to go to Xadia and kill a magma titan in order for Viren to use it's heart for a magic spell and end the famine in Duren and Katolis, which ended up saving hundreds of thousands of lives.
  • He refused to leave the wounded from the battle of the magma titan behind.
  • He and Sarai were willing to distract Avizandum so the others of the expodition could get the magma titan's heart to the Human Kingdoms, and only didn't because the Queens of Duren stopped them and decided to give their lives to fight off Avizandum.
  • He comforted Callum after his mother was killed by Avizandum.
  • At some point, Harrow gave Annika's ring to Aanya so Aanya could have something from her mothers that she could remember them by.
  • When the Mayor Otti requested aid as a storm was causing the people of Noct to fall asleep, Harrow went there to help them.
  • He brought Callum and Ezran during his mission in Noct so they could bond together as Callum wasn't getting along with Ezran at the time.
  • After a storm happened and he understood that being at Noct was dangerous, he ordered Amaya to have some of her troops bring Ezran and Callum back to Katolis' castle, although this didn't end up working.
  • He came to regret his more ambiguous deeds in the past, and allowed himself to be killed so others wouldn't pay the consequences for his actions.
  • He tried to send Callum and Ezran to their family's winter lodge in order to avoid them getting killed by Moonshadow assassins.
  • He refused to change his soul with one of his soldiers.
  • While it lead to Viren becoming more ruthless, Harrow tried to make Viren see that he was not above the rules of Katolis, saying that he was a servant of Katolis.
  • He wrote a letter to Callum, telling him that he wanted for him to help Ezran when the latter became king and told him that he wanted Callum and Ezran to be free from the actions of the past and choose by themselves what they want to make a brighter future.

Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • He fails the admirable standards to characters like Rayla, Amaya, Aanya, Akiyu and even his own son Ezran, who all did more admirable deeds than Harrow, with Amaya, Akiyu, and Rayla having lower rescorses, especialy the latter two.
  • He is far too vengeful to be Near Pure Good, as he killed Avizandum, despite knowing it would break the peace between Xadia and the Human Kingdoms, for killing his wife Sarai, and refused to stop even when Avizandum tried to convince him and Viren to leave Xadia.
  • While he most of the times means well, Harrow has comitted several morally ambiguous acts, with Harrow later admiting that he did terrible things, such actions are:
    • He killed a magma titan without even questioning if he was sentient, proving that he was willing to kill an innocent being to stop the famine. This is made worse when Sarai confronts him, and unlike her, he shows no empathy for it and even believes that just because it is a magma titan that means it doesn't have feelings.
    • While he was initially reluctant to do it, he told Viren to destroy the egg of the Dragon Prince after Viren convinced him that it would grow up to become a threat to humanity. In other words, he told Viren to kill what is the dragon equivelant of an infant out of fear that it would endanger humanity.
    • While Harrow did regret his actions before he died, they caused too much harm to others and are far too immoral to make him even come close to Near Pure Good.
    • As a result of his actions, his son Ezran sees what he did as wrong and decides to become a better person so he wouldn't do horrible things like the ones his father did.
  • While it was understandable given how arrogant Viren was, Harrow was very cold towards him and forced him to kneel before him, saying that he was just a servant of Katolis and nothing more. This would lead to Viren to put his own hunger for power and goals above anything Harrow would have wanted.
