Kala is one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside Kerchak) of Disney's Tarzan franchise.
She is the adoptive mother of the titular protagonist Tarzan, who raised him and took him in as their own after the death of her and Kerchak's child, and when Tarzan's are killed at the hands of Sabor.
She was voiced by Glenn Close in the 1999 version, and in The Legend of Tarzan, she was voiced by Susanne Blakeslee, who also voiced. In the Japanese dub of the 1999 version, she was voiced by the late Toshiko Fujita.
