Jasmine (Japanese: ミカン Mikan) is one of the eight gym leaders of the Johto Region in Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver. She is the gym leader of Olivine City, who specializes in Steel-type Pokémon.

She was voiced by Yumi Kakazu in the Japanese version. She was also voiced by Tara Jayne, and later by Alyson Leigh Rosenfeld in English version of the Diamond and Pearl anime, and Kimberly Brooks in Pokémon Masters.

Game and Anime Versions[]

She intentionally left her duties as a Gym Leader to tend to her Ampharos located at Glitter/Shining Lighthouse, who had fallen too sick to operate the lighthouse.
She also cared for the sick Pokémon whilst the player traveled to get the medicine to cure it, during which she also operated the lighthouse so that ships could navigate safety away from the cove.

Game Version[]

Unlike most Gym Leaders, Jasmine has a notably bigger role rather than simply standing in their respective gym and introducing themselves to the player before battling them.

Anime Version[]

When Ash and his friends returned from Cianwood City to cure her Ampharos, Jasmine helped him defeat Team Rocket after they attempted to capture Pikachu.

Why She Doesn't Stand Out[]

Despite having the personality, Jasmine fails the Admirable Standard compared to many characters within the series, most notably the player and Ethan.
Because she is a gym leader, she has notably higher resources compared to most Pokémon characters, which allows her to accomplish her goals quicker and easier.

Trivia[]

Jasmine was originally marked as Pure Good for a short while, however she was later stripped when it was found that she failed the admirable standard and had notably higher resources compared to the player, she was then designated to the Near Pure Good category for the aforementioned reasons, but these too didn't hold up and she was eventually removed from that category too, leading her to be labeled as a Heroic Benchmark.
