Don't die, Aki.

—Himeno's famous quote.

Himeno is a supporting character in Chainsaw Man Part 1: The Public Safety Saga. She's Aki's former Devil Hunter partner who has a crush on him and is part of the 4th Special Division of the Public Safety Devil Hunters. She has a contract with the Ghost Devil.

She was voiced by Mariya Ise in Japanese and Katelyn Barr in English.

Her Good Ranking[]

Her Heroic Deeds[]

  • Despite being haunted by the deaths of her former partners, she doesn’t hesitate to throw herself into combat when the situation demands it.
  • Builds camaraderie and trust within her unit, including forming bonds with Kobeni and Denji, which helps foster group cohesion despite the brutal nature of their work.
  • She helps guide newer Devil Hunters like Denji and Power, teaching them combat basics and psychological survival techniques—even if it's through tough love or alcohol-fueled pep talks.
  • Acts as an emotional anchor for Aki, deeply caring about his safety and wanting him to quit the Devil Hunting business before it kills him. She supports him both professionally and emotionally.
  • During the battle against Katana Man, Himeno uses her entire body as a sacrifice to summon the full power of the Ghost Devil in a desperate attempt to save Aki from certain death.

Why Doesn't She Stand Out?[]

  • Her self-sacrifice is brave, but it’s quickly followed by more dramatic and larger-scale acts of heroism by other characters (like Aki's fight with the Gun Devil or Power’s sacrifice), which makes her deed seem smaller by comparison.
  • Some of her actions (like kissing Denji while intoxicated and planning to bribe him into leaving Aki alone) complicate her image as a purely heroic figure, making her a more flawed and morally gray character.

Trivia[]

  • The first anime trailer showcased a scene not present in the manga in which Himeno and Aki Hayakawa are both naked in bed, sharing a cigarette. This is a non-canonical extra scene not present in the anime, and might be just an animation test reel, much like the other scenes in the trailer were.
