Gabriel, later known as Freddy Fazbear, is a major antagonist and the titular mascot of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise.
He is a child who was lured and killed at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza by William Afton and later went on to possess the restaurant's animatronic mascot with the help of the Puppet. He would hunt down and attempt to kill the night guard at at least two Freddy Fazbear's Pizza locations mistaking them for his murderer. Despite this, he does have good intentions as he wants to avenge himself and his friends while also protecting other children from suffering the same fate he did. Despite being an antagonistic character, he is the protagonist of some minigames.
In the unused "Showtime!" song in Five Nights at Freddy's VR: Help Wanted, as well as Funko Fusion, he is voiced by Kellen Goff. In Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery, he is voiced by Tim Simmons.
His Good Ranking[]
His Heroic Deeds[]
- In the "SAVE THEM" minigame, he tries to help the Puppet save the children from being murdered by Afton.
- Though he doesn't show plenty of personality during his physical appearances in the series, he doesn't lack characterization as unlike his fellow animatronics, he is shown to be sadistic as shown when the power turns off and doesn't instantly attack the guard but instead plays a music box to scare his victims before slowly attacking them (until he later subverts his sadism but still retains a full personality).
- While he usually serves an an antagonist in most of his appearances, none of them affect his morality for numerous reasons, namely:
- There's no evidence to suggest that he amassed a kill count back when the pizzerias were open since he only targeted Jeremy Fitzgerald, Michael Afton and the dayshift guard (who's William Afton himself) during 1987, with Phone Guy's dialogue implying that this was the first time any attacks were happening, and him killing numerous nightguards is both fridge horror and off-screen villainy not relevant to the plot, meaning that it’s possible he didn’t kill any.
- While he did help kill Ralph the Phone Guy, this is only because he thought that he was William Afton and suffered moral agency issues when he attacked nightguards, as such he wasn’t truly aware of his death and likely felt great remorse for it if he was aware as he only wanted to get revenge on William Afton and not people who don’t deserve their suffering.
- While he reappears as a threat in both Ultimate Custom Night and Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted, neither of these depictions can be trusted since the former is an illusory personal hell for Afton made by Cassidy, while the latter is nothing more than an in-universe game made to cover up the truth about ghosts haunting the animatronics.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- While assisting the Puppet in trying to stop William from killing more kids is enough to make him pass the baseline, he fails the admirable standards to her and Michael Afton, who both do more to help the Missing Children.
- He's occasionally On & Off due to being an antagonist in most of his appearances for trying to kill a night guard, mistaking them as Afton.
- He has a few lethal moments, such as attempting to kill Michael Afton and Jeremy Fitzgerald, but this is minor however considering how he didn’t actually kill them and stopped being lethal after getting revenge on Afton.
Trivia[]
- He serves as a parallel to Golden Freddy, (who is fittingly a Villainous Benchmark) as unlike Cassidy who chose to never move on from her tragedy, Gabriel chose to rest after moving on and to help save others during his time as an animatronic and willingly chose to be good while Cassidy willingly chose to be evil.
