What a perfectly beautiful little lady.
~ Darling, when she receives Lady as a present.

Elizabeth Brown (also known as Darling) is one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside Jim Dear) of Disney's 15th full-length animated feature film, Lady and the Tramp, and a supporting character in it's sequel, Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure As Jim Dear's wife, she is Lady and Tramp's dog owner and mother of Jim Jr.

In the original 1955 animated film she was voiced by the late Peggy Lee. In Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure, she was voiced by Barbara Goodson. In the 2019 live-action remake of the same name, she was portrayed by Kiersey Clemmons.

Her Good Ranking[]

Her Heroic Deeds[]

In General[]

  • She is a loving and nurturing mother to Jim Jr.
  • She is a considerate and smart wife to Jim Dear as she does whatever she can to make him listen to her when she wants what's best for her family and pets.
  • She cared for her pets and does what’s best for them, as well as being aware of their sapience.
  • Compared to most characters of Lady and the Tramp that display or used to display corrupting qualities, Darling has no corrupting qualities at any point and stands out in being the most mature, sensible, and purest out of all the characters in the franchise.

Lady and the Tramp[]

  • When Lady is alone, she successfully persuaded Jim to let her sleep with them in order to make her happy.
  • While she did slap Lady, it was only due to herself being pregnant and didn't want something bad happening to herself.
  • When Jim Jr. won't stop crying, she sang a lullaby to her son in order to calm him down and had Lady introduced to him, in order to make her grow fond of Jim Jr. as an act of kindness towards Lady.
    • She didn't want to go on vacation and leave Jim Jr. behind, though she did kindly inform Lady to look after Jim Jr. and that she and Jim will return home, which they did as promised.
  • When she and Jim return home, they resolve the conflict by letting Lady out of the room and allow her to prove Tramp's innocence to them and that caused Aunt Sarah, Trusty and Jock to realize their respective misjudgements, as well as making sure their house and baby are safe from harm by the rat.
  • She and Jim rewarded Tramp for saving their home and baby by giving him a new home, along with four puppies.

Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure[]

  • When Scamp escaped, Darling called the pound so he can be easily found and brought home to ensure the happiness and unity of the family. She told Jim that she did call the pound but little did they know, the Dogcatcher would actually find Scamp and took him to the pound later in the film.
  • Instead of being pressured by Jim, she managed the house by taking care of Jim Jr. and four other puppies while her husband, Lady and Tramp go out searching for Scamp.
  • When Jim Jr. cried, she hummed a lullaby to calm him down.
  • Upon seeing Angel, who had no home, she successfully persuaded Jim to have Angel join the family in order to ensure the happiness of their dogs and Jim Jr., as well as uniting the whole family. Furthermore, this shows she has a healthy relationship with Jim Jr.

Why She Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • While her acts of animal kindness and unity towards her family and pets does help her pass the baseline, she still heavily fails the admirable standards of Lady and the Tramp to several characters.
    • Lady, who chased away the rat to protect her, Jim, the baby and Aunt Sarah, worked with Tramp to stop the rat, and then prove Tramp’s innocence to Darling herself, Jim, and Aunt Sarah.
    • Tramp, who killed the rat to save the house and saves Scamp in the pound where he and Scamp save the dogs by defeating Reggie.
    • Scamp, who saved Angel and the pound, as well as defeating Buster.

Trivia[]

  • She is the second mother in a Disney animated film to be Heroic Benchmark and is the only one of the three characters from a 1950’s Disney film to be Heroic Benchmark with the others being Prince Charming and Wendy.
    • On top of that, she and Mrs. Potts both have their allies that are Pure Good and Near Pure Good; Darling has Scamp, Lady and Tramp while Mrs. Potts has Belle, Beast , and Lumiere (a former Heroic Benchmark).
    • Darling is another good example of a hero who could have had the chance to be Pure Good, but she can’t be, due to her holding back her resources.
  • Despite being spouses, she and Jim have the exact opposite moral rankings like Anita and Roger from 101 Dalmatians, as Darling and Roger are both Heroic Benchmark, while Jim and Anita are both Standard Good.
