~ Curly in Jimmy's hallucination. |
Curly is the deuteragonist of the psychological horror game Mouthwashing.
He served as the captain of the Tulpar, a freighter spaceship transporting Mouthwash for the Pony Express, until the co-pilot, Jimmy, deliberately crashed the ship and framed Curly for the incident.
His Good Ranking[]
His Heroic Deeds[]
- He was always a responsible and dependable captain who cared deeply for the crew of the Tulpar, striving to keep things running smoothly.
- He helped Jimmy land a job at Pony Express.
- He informed the crew about the end of the Pony Express, despite being instructed not to, out of a desire to keep them in the loop.
- He helped Daisuke get out of the emergency foam.
- When Anya confided that Jimmy had sexually assaulted her, he tried to address the situation by speaking with Jimmy. It's also clear that Anya found emotional support in Curly and trusted him the most among the ship, and upon assuming that she was looking to harm herself, Curly insisted that he would've done anything to help her.
- After Jimmy deliberately steered the ship toward an asteroid, Curly rushed to the cockpit and attempted to save everyone by averting the crash, risking his life in the process. This act left him permanently maimed and incapacitated.
- In Jimmy's hallucination, Curly expresses remorse, admitting that he could have protected Anya more effectively and prevented Jimmy from crashing the ship if he had acted more decisively.
Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- He is bog-standard, as most of his heroism amounts to being a good friend and supportive captain. The exception is him from trying to prevent the ship from crashing and thereby saving the crew. While this was brave and admirable, it was also in his own self-interest despite the personal risk.
- While he may have had good intentions, his attempt to remediate the situation between Jimmy and Anya resulted in him enabling Jimmy's behavior by giving him the benefit of the doubt and essentially neglecting Anya's concerns. He also criticized her hiding the gun safe to prevent Jimmy from finding it.
- This inadvertently spurs the main conflict of the game: after Jimmy says that he will "handle it" before dismissing Curly and his conversation with him, he goes to crash the ship.
