Cranky Kong (The Super Mario Bros. Movie)

Cranky Kong is a supporting character of Illumination's The Super Mario Bros. Movie. He is the father of Donkey Kong, and the ruler of the Jungle Kingdom comprised of various anthropomorphic monkeys and apes called Kongs.

He is voiced by Fred Armisen.

Despite initially refusing to let Peach have access to the Kong army, Cranky allows them a chance to prove themselves worthy by pitching Mario in a fight against Donkey Kong .
He’s proven himself an excellent leader and has likely orchestrated many strategies for his soldiers in the past.
He is shown to be honorable and believes in a fair fight and to back it up, he has the gold ? Blocks available to Mario to give him some advantage, as he knew that Donkey Kong is physically stronger than Mario.
Even when he is annoyed and embarrassed by Donkey Kong's antics, he does show to truly care for him as shown when he was devastated when both DK and Mario fall off Rainbow Road.
Once Mario emerges victorious over Donkey Kong, Cranky Kong provides his Kongs, Mario, Peach, and Toad with karts needed to defeat Bowser's army.
He saved Mario from getting attacked by a Koopa with a bomb.
After regaining his freedom thanks to the efforts of Peach, Mario, and DK, Cranky gives DK the long overdue respect and love that he needed, telling him how proud he is of him.

Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]

Cranky heavily fails the admirable standards to Princess Peach, Donkey Kong, Toad, Mario, and Luigi, who played far more active roles in defeating Bowser's army, with the latter three having much less resources. The former two helped free all of Bowser's prisoners from getting incinerated by the lava, while the latter two were able to defeat Bowser with the Super Star. Meanwhile, Toad gave Princess Peach an ice flower to help her defeat Bowser.
He shows himself to be extremely haughty, as seen in Mario's misfortune during the arena battle with DK.
He is also shown to be a huge jerk to those around him, initially rudely turning down Peach's proposition despite how much of a threat Bowser posed, and he was impatient with DK's childish behavior which results in a strained relationship with his son, which makes him the reason why Donkey Kong was arrogant and jerkish for the most part.
