Heroic Benchmark Wiki

Cranky Kong is the overarching protagonist of the Donkey Kong franchise and the grandfather of the current Donkey Kong.

In the games, he was voiced by Takashi Nagasako.

His Good Ranking[]

His Heroic Deeds[]

  • He redeemed himself of his past villainy.
  • In Donkey Kong Country, he gives advice in some of the level in the game.
  • In Donkey Kong 2: Diddy's Kong-Quest 2, he appears at the Monkey Museum once again providing hints.
  • In Donkey Kong 64, he informs Donkey Kong about King K. Rool's cronies kidnapping the other Kongs and stolen his golden banana hoard. He trains Donkey Kong in some training barrels.
  • In the beginning cutscene of Donkey Kong Country Tropical, he's in Donkey Kong's house celebrating his birthday with Diddy and Dixie.
  • He teams up with the Kongs to defeat Lord Fredik to prevent Donkey Kong Island from being frozen and he celebrates the liberation of their home with him, Dixie and Diddy.
  • He cares for Donkey Kong, Dixie Kong, Diddy Kong and his family, since he gave advice to them, train them and teaming up to defeat other villains.

Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • While helping the Kongs save Donkey Kong Island from being frozen passes the baseline, he fails the admirable standard to Donkey Kong, Diddy and Dixie Kong as he has done less good despite having higher resources than them.
  • He has done some villainous things like kidnapping Pauline from Mario. Although this was in the old days, he never show remorse for this or all the times he fought with Mario. Furthermore, he is still On & Off, because he gave K. Rool DK's Banana Hoard to challenge him and Diddy to retrieve them again in Donkey Kong Land for the Game Boy.
  • He is very envious and arrogant of Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong as he was jealous of them defeating King K. Rool which is why he challenged them on beating King K. Rool again, but on weaker hardware (citing the graphics as the only reason Donkey Kong Country did as well as it did), and in the ending of Donkey Kong Country 3, he criticized Dixie and Kiddy Kong for their victory over KAOS and Baron K. Roolenstein. He also thinks he is the best of the best in his family and always wants to prove that he is better than them.
  • He has some dated views on gender, as in Donkey Kong Country 2, he thinks that "heroes are muscular men with loads of guns and various weapons; not girls with long twirly hair". Furthermore, in-game, he says that Dixie should be a "token female princess waiting to be rescued".

Trivia[]

  • He is the first Heroic Benchmark created by Nintendo (along with Pauline) because Donkey Kong (1981) was the first game they ever created, at least with heroes.
