NOTE: This is only about Chief's actions in the film, as his Dog Man: Mission Impawsible counterpart fails the heroic baseline and his book counterpart was voted as Near Pure Good. |

“ | Do you remember Flippy, the fish you gave me for my birthday, that ate way too many brain dots and got super smart with psychokinetic powers and robbed all those pet stores for their plastic fish tank treasure chests because he thought it was real money and ended up freezin' to death in a fishbowl high up on the mountain before you got to roll around with him and crush him because you like to roll around with dead fish? | „ |

Chief Clarence Bailey, better known as his title Chief, is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Sarah Hatoff) of DreamWorks' 48th full-length animated feature film Dog Man, based off of Dav Pilkey's book series of the same name.
He is the short-tempered though loving boss of the Ohkay City's police department who regularly tried to defeat Petey the Cat, the world's most evilest cat, along with other police officers such as Officer Knight and Milly. After Officer Knight and his dog, Greg are forced to become one being to survive a bomb incident, Chief would support Dog Man whenever needed, and Dog Man would support him whenever needed. He is also the son of an unnamed deceased mother, the former owner of Flippy, and the love interest of Australian photojournalist Sarah Hatoff.
He is voiced by Lil Rel Howery.
His Good Ranking[]
His Heroic Deeds[]
- Prior to the film's events, he continously tried to defeat and arrest Petey, the world's most evilest cat.
- While this is not confirmed, it's likely he called the hospital after Officer Knight and Greg the Dog were caught in an explosion.
- He shares that he truly cares for his mother even (presumably) years after her passing.
- He stands up to the mayor when she threatens to fire Dog Man by taking him off the Petey case.
- He tries to support and encourage Dog Man whenever necessary.
- He went out to help Dog Man, Petey, and Li'l Petey in defeating Flippy.
- He warns everyone that Flippy was about to kill all of them and brings up the idea of finding shelter.
- He ultimately was the one to arrest Flippy, getting him on the front cover on the newspaper, making him feel his mother would be proud if she was still alive, and having Sarah Hatoff fall in love with him.
- He immediately goes out and warns everyone that a Beasty Building was on the loose.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- He ultimately fails the admirable standard to Dog Man and even Petey, who have sacrificed their lives and done countless more heroic deeds than Chief.
- While sometimes his anger outbursts can be justified, sometimes it's merely for selfish reasons, like when he found out Dog Man was more popular than him.
- He has a Kick-the-Dog moment where he states he would rather celebrate the heroes' victory from Flippy than fix everything Flippy had done in his rampage, even stating to "forget how half the city's destroyed", which is too corrupting for Near Pure Good.
