Craig Cuttlefish, formerly known as Cap'n Cuttlefish, is the overaching protagonist of the Splatoon franchise, serving as the deuteragonist of Splatoon and Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion, one of the two unseen overaching protagonists of Splatoon 2 (alongisde Agent 3), and the overaching protagonist of Splatoon 3.
He is the grandfather of the Squid Sisters and a eldery Inkling war veteran who fought against his archenemy, DJ Octavio, during the Great Turf Wars as a member of the Squidbeak Splatoon. Years later, he would revive the Splatoon when he recruited his granddaughter Callie as Agemt 1 of the New Squidbeak Splatoon, who in turn recruited her cousin Marie as Agent 2.. In the first game, he recruits Agent 3 to recover the Great Zapfish, which has been stolen by the Octarians. As of Splatoon 3, he has retired hrom being the captain of the New Squidbeak Splatoon, becoming their senior advisor and naming Agent 3 as his succesor for the role of the Captain.
His Good Ranking[]
His Good Deeds[]
- He fought in the Great Turf war and formed the New Squidbeak Splatoon, being one of the sole reasons why the Inklings won it in the first place.
- He genuinely loves his family, especially his granddaughters Callie & Marie.
- After the Octarians stole the Great Zapfish, he goes to Inkopolis Plaza to find someone to recruit to get it back
- When the player enters Octo Canyon, he officially brands them as Agent 3, and supports and guides them throughout the story until his kidnapping.
- When Agents 1 and 2 hack into the speakers in the final boss, he cheers them on after freeing himself.
- He places DJ Octavio into a snow globe in an attempt to keep him away from the Zapfish
- While he does immediately sic Agent 3 onto an unknown Octoling and even prepares to beat them up upon waking up in the Deepsea Metro, he forms a truce with them after seeing them without a weapon or their memories, implying that he's honorable in some way.
- Despite his grudge against Octarians, he was willing to work with both Agent 8 and Marina despite them being Octolings. (Although this could also be because he was threatened by Pearl to not splat Marina.)
- He cheers on Agent 8 as they activate the Hyperbombs on the NILS Statue.
- Despite being retired, he does help out the New NEW Squidbeak Splatoon by finding a new Agent 3 after the old one was promoted to captain.
- He recruits a new Agent 3, as well as their Smallfry
- In the finale of Return of the Mammalians, He was willing to put aside his differences with Octavio, even cheering him on for playing the Calamari Inkantation and saving both Agent 3 and Smallfry.
- In the Grand Fest if the player beats the story mode, he can be seen beside Octavio in a retail stand, showing that they may have buried the Hatchet with each other.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- While serving in the Great Turf War and forming the Squidbeak Splatoon is certainly an important moment in the franchise, It relies on some Fridge Brilliance as not much is shown on how much this affected the war.
- He fails the admirable standards to not just Agents 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, & New 3, Off the Hook, Deep Cut, & Smallfry, but also to his former nemesis DJ Octavio, as they all, in their own ways, assisted in saving the entire world with similar or lower resources, whereas all he really does is recruit the playable Agents and guide them to the goal.
- He's somewhat Xenophobic as he instantly sics Agent 3 onto 8 upon spotting them, immediately suspects Octavio for stealing the Zapfish again in Return of the Mammalians, and even shared with Pearl some personal information about Marina, revealing to her that she's an Octoling. Though this is a minor prevention as he doesn't show this side of him after Return of the Mammalians, implying that he subverts this factor.
