William "Bootstrap Bill" Turner Sr. is the overarching protagonist of Disney's first Pirate of the Caribbean film trilogy. He was the father of Will Turner and former crew member of the Black Pearl under Captain Jack Sparrow and later Hector Barbossa. He also served as an unwilling crew member of the Flying Dutchman under Davy Jones before being set free by his son.

He was portrayed by Stellan SkarsgÄrd.

  • 10 years before The Curse of the Black Pearl, he was the only to defend Jack Sparrow against Barbossa's mutiny.
  • Even after joining Flying Dutchman's crew, he keeps his friendship with Jack Sparrow and warn him of the danger if he disobeys to Jones.
  • He attacked Davy Jones when he realized that he had Mortally wounded his son and was genuinely upset when Jones Stabbed him with his Sword.
  • He did genially love his son and was very upset on both occasions when Jones tried to kill him.
  • He helped make sure that Will wouldn't lose the dice game with Davy Jones.
  • When Jones is Killed he cuts out Will's Heart so that he could live and in turn marry Elizabeth.

Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]

  • He was still willing to abandon his family to go pirating.
  • He does alert The Dutchman crew when James Norrington Breaks Elizabeth off the Dutchman which resulted in Norrington's death.
  • He fails the admirable standards of his son.

  • He is the first Pirates of the Caribbean character to be on Heroic Benchmark.
