~ Appa talking during one of Aang's hallucinations |
Appa is a supporting character in the Avatar franchise, being a major protagonist in Avatar: The Last Airbender and a posthumous character in The Legend of Korra.
He is Avatar Aang's flying bison and one of his closest friends. Just like Aang, he was living since one hundred years before the story took place, but was frozen along with Aang, in a failed attempt of fleeing from the Northern Air Temple, after Aang discovered he'd be taken away from Monk Gyatso. One hundred years later, during a war between the Fire Nation and the rest of the world, he served as Team Avatar's main source of transportation, allowing them to go very fast through places around the world while helping Aang in his journey to master the four bending techniques and defeat Fire Lord Ozai.
His Good Ranking[]
His Heroic Deeds[]
- He was Aang's friend since they both were very young, and Appa was one of the only people he could play with after it was discovered that he is the Avatar.
- He helped Aang run away during a storm, after Aang decided to leave the temple.
- He helped Katara and Sokka rescue Aang from Zuko's Fire Nation ship.
- He traveled with Team Avatar through the whole world in their mission to stop the Fire Lord.
- He saved Katara, Sokka and Toph from Mai and Ty Lee.
- Despite being an animal that never talks, Appa is shown to have a clear moral agency as he can understand what humans are saying and knows what is right and what is wrong.
Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- He fails the admirable standards of the Avatar franchise far too much as all members of Team Avatar, even Aang, have outclassed him in every way.
- He is sometimes mischievous with Momo, refusing to let him eat some of the fruit they were supposed to split.
