Ankara is a supporting character in the AMC series Into the Badlands.
She is a former master of the Abbot Monastery and the mentor to Bajie, having been obsessed with bringing back to lost city of Azra due to being tricked by the Black Lotus into giving up the cities location, leading to its destruction. Her obsession led her to becoming a villainous character and being exiled from the Monastery, but she still ultimately had noble intentions and wants to fix her past mistakes.
She was portrayed by Clare Higgins.

Her Heroic Deeds[]
- After being tricked into revealing Azra's location by Magnus, she dedicated her life to fixing this mistake and finding the Azran book and compass in order to activate the emergency distress radio signal which was meant to contact Pilgrim and bring the city back.
- Helps Sunny to relieve his infant son Henry of the pain that his Gift is bringing him, and explains to Sunny that Pilgrim can permanently cure Henry of the Gift.
- When the Black Lotus come to kill her, Sunny, and Bajie, she tries to use her Gift to save them out of guilt for her mistakes in bringing Pilgrim to the Badlands, she even explains to Sunny prior to the Black Lotus' attack that his Gift could defeat Pilgrims if he can find a way to unlock it, showing she know understands that Pilgrim needs to be defeated.
- After Bajie is killed by Magnus and she is mortally wounded, she uses her last bit of strength to revive Bajie from death, still caring deeply for her apprentice even after everything.
Why Doesn't She Stand Out?[]
- She fails the admirable standards, primarily to her own apprentice Bajie. While both of them actively sought to contact Pilgrim, Bajie genuinely believed he was saving the world due to Ankara's deception, while she was fully aware of the negative consequences.
- While it doesn't appear that she knew Pilgrim would go on to try and kill anyone who didn't have a Gift, she was aware he was going to try and take over the Badlands in the name of Azra, making her an accessory to many of his horrific crimes.
- She lies to Bajie that contacting Pilgrim would fix the entire world, making him dedicate himself to the same mission as her without knowing the danger.
- When Sunny, Bajie, the Widow, and Nix attempt to take her to the Master for help in dealing with Pilgrim, Ankara attacks Nix and nearly attacks the others before being incapacitated by the Widow.
