~ Android 8 just about to defeat General White. |
Android 8 is a major character during the Red Ribbon Army saga in Dragon Ball. He was an android in the Red Ribbon Army created by Dr. Gero and Dr. Flappe where he was sent to fight Goku, until he deserted the army by deciding to be good and helped Goku defeat the Red Ribbon Army.
He was voiced by Shozo Iizuka in the original Japanese dub, Katsuhisa Hoki in Dragon Ball Legends, In the Ocean dub, he is voiced by the late Dale Wilson. In the Funimation dub, he is voiced by Mike McFarland and by Jeremiah Yurk in the Blue Water dub.
His Good Ranking[]
His Heroic Deeds[]
- Android 8 was never willingly evil from the start. While he did attack Goku in Path to Power, he was mind-controlled by General White into killing Goku until he recovered his memories and refused to kill him.
- Rightfully refused to attack Goku when Murasaki activated him.
- Helps Goku escape a labyrinth room in the Muscle Tower by breaking the secret wall that General White was controlling.
- While he did refuse to help Goku fight Buyon, it was understandable, as the monster was seemingly too invincible to fight due to the immense body fat. Furthermore, when Goku freezes Buyon, 8 comforts Goku by warming him up from the snow.
- Wanted General White to solve the fight peacefully, with Goku, the mayor and the General being left unharmed, which sadly the latter refuses.
- It is implied that he was giving General White a redemption, even though he was far from it.
- Defeated General White by punching him out of Muscle Tower, saving the entire Jingle Village in the process. He also destroyed Muscle Tower to prevent any of the Red Ribbon Army members from terrorizing the village any further (in the anime).
- It is later revealed that he hid the Dragon Ball that General White was looking for when he overheard his plan of destroying the village after finding the said ball.
- Decides to stay with Suno and the Jingle Village residents.
- When Suno was injured from the television explosion, Android 8 sought to get her to a hospital, as well as those who were injured in accidents that were caused by King Piccolo's offsprings.
- Alongside the other Earthlings, 8 gives Goku the energy to defeat Kid Buu.
- Much like Gohan, 8 despises violence and only fights when his friends are threatened. Furthermore, 8 gives his enemies a settle for peace like General White, only for him to reject this offer.
- Like Android 16, 8 possesses no corrupting qualities, unlike all the other androids.
- Despite being an android, 8 has a clear moral agency, as he was created by villains but refused to fight Goku, knowing that General White and Murasaki is bad.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- While he would've stood out as Pure Good in the original Dragon Ball series, the admirable standards of Dragon Ball eventually go too high for him to stand out. Additionally, while he can't be compared to the Saiyans, Grand Elder Guru, Piccolo, Zeno, Beerus or Android 17, he still fails the Admirable Standards to Mr. Satan, who convinced the people to lend energy to Goku to defeat Kid Buu and redeemed Fat Buu with lower resources and Android 16, who tried to defeat Cell and convinced Gohan to defeat Cell with similar resources.
