Admiral Gial Ackbar is a major character in Star Wars franchise, being major protagonist of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi. Serving as a military commander for the Rebel Alliance, he leads the Rebellion in their battle against the Galactic Empire over the forest moon of Endor. Later he becomes a commander of the Resistance in the war against First Order.

- During the Clone Wars, Ackbar served as his planet's military advisor and was also in charge of protecting the prince.
- He led the Rebel Alliance's space forces in their attack against the second Death Star.
- Ackbar enlisted Lando Calrissian, Han's former rival turned friend, to lead the starfighter assault against the Empire's forces above Endor's forest moon.
- When the Empire was defeated, Ackbar continued to help the remnants of the Rebel Alliance, now the Resistance, in their fight against the First Order, even at the cost of his own life.
- Unlike many who shun Leia due to her parentage as the birth daughter of Darth Vader, Ackbar along with several other rebel veterans sent messages of support to Leia where they formally established the Resistance, a paramilitary group dedicated to protecting the New Republic.

- As a series, Star Wars has a high admirable standard and while helping their fight against the Empire's galactic tyranny is a noble goal, Ackbar does mostly bog-standard heroism.
